I have the book right here. Bush attacks Harry Reid for torpedoing his amnesty that he worked so hard on with Juan McCain and Ted Kennedy:

“Shortly after the 2006 elections, I invited a group of senior lawmakers to the Oval Office. Afterward, I pulled Ted Kennedy aside. Unfortunately, our relationship had deteriorated since the days of No Child Left Behind ...

I hoped immigration reform would provide a chance to rekindle our cooperation. “I think this is something we can get done,” I told him at our meeting after the elections. “Let’s prove the skeptics wrong again.” He agreed.

In the spring of 2007, Ted collaborated with Arizona’s Republican senators, John McCain and Jon Kyl, on a bill that strengthened border security, created the temporary worker program, and set up a tough but fair path to citizenship for law-abiding immigrants who had been in America for a number of years. ...

While I am disappointed I didn’t sign bills into law, I do not regret taking on Social Security and immigration reform. Our efforts raised public awareness about problems that are not going away. One lesson of history is that it sometimes takes more than one president, even more than one generation, to accomplish a major legislative objective.”

Exactly - look at the disaster were left with at the end of his term politically due to his horrific second term.

Remember - without 60 votes in the Senate - NO OBAMACARE!

So, when people here gush over Bush and still act like high school girls wih a crush on the QB, sorry, I don’t go for this.

George Bush, Rove, the RINO’s, and all the rest of the faux conservatives are directly responsible for obama and the rats getting 60 votes in the senate to allow obamacare to go forward.

Oh so Bush’s version of history is going to change my mind on the facts?

Look if you want to be a bleeding heart liberal, then keep sucking up this Internationalist that gave us Obama! Yes you can thank Bush for back stabbing conservatives and practically destroying the Republican party instead of leading it. Come on man you are killing me!

It makes me sick to know that we.ve gone from having a great Commander In Chief like Ronald Reagan to one like George W. Bush..the Bush’s, like Clinton and now Obama, make me nauseous.

Pretty funny exchange in the context of this thread. I’ve been in the room when George W. Bush stumbled around verbally and just couldn’t find a word in his vocabulary to describe a simple thing and so he would make a word up on the spot. Everyone present laughed at him. :-)

The Mena things did happen, I was not involved but was in Mena many times and know the locals.

Then you know that Busch and Clinton were boss and underling in the same criminal network for many, many years.

I am nostalgic for the days of Arlen Specter, Charlie Crist, Lincoln Chafee, and Trent Lott. Bring ‘em back now!

A bit of an overreaction to President Bush calling Clinton a buddy. I think it would be very safe to assume some of the staunchest conservatives supported on this board are not just friendly with some of the most despised liberals but consider them friends.

Maybe Larry Craig should write a book about how he was misunderstood?

GWB’s second term was a complete mess. And yes, it is directly responsible for allowing a communist like obama to even be considered for office in the first place.

Same here Reagan should be what Republicans strive to be and NOT a Bush.

I would say that was one of Reagan’s few mistakes. That was putting 41 as his VP. 41 was too liberal and an internationalist. This was always hard for me to swallow since he was over the CIA. I thought the CIA was on our side? This goes along line of how can Billionaires like Soros, Gates, Jobs be such Communist? I guess when you have so much money and power then you want to eliminate the competition by destroying the middle class? I don’t know... Just a guess

Whenever he did that I could not to help but think he must be drinking heavy. That is what someone goes through when they are hung over. Bush did have a history of partying hard and drinking heavy. I just have a hard time believing he did not have a drink in the White House. Especially with all the crap that was taking place.

Bush lost me for good when right after he won re-election, WHICH WORKED ON FOR A WEEK IN FLORIDA ON MY OWN DIME DESPITE LIVING IN NY, he gave that speech “I plan on using my political capital”, and immediately proceeded to try to push amnesty for illegals.

That is what did it for me.

I believe they both are dedicated to the same ultimate goals.

As an R or a D they both take a different path to the outhouse but they both use the same hole.

The difference is personality.

Bill Clinton: disingenuous, loose morals, self absorbed, good at acting but probably very likable when meeting him.

GWB: tough talking, emotional, compassionate to a real fault, kind, probably actually feels guilt, pigheaded, but very warm, humorous when meeting him.

BHO: cold as ice, arrogant, deceptive, rude, thin skinned, indoctrinated to a fault, has no birth certificate LOL, probably not friendly or impressive when meeting him.

It would be nice if more people on Free Republic understood this. Sarcasm is a great way to laugh and make a point about something.
