What he apparently said:

“Holtz said GOP leaders in the House are well positioned to “fire Nancy Pelosi” in November but “they can’t find the end zone without your support.” The message, filled with football references, asked supporters to give cash to help Republicans capture the majority on Nov. 2. “We are late into the fourth quarter of the midterm elections and the NRCC needs your immediate help to drive our Republican Party to victory,” the former Notre Dame coach said.”

~ ~ ~

If he said that, and it’s pretty blatant, I can just fathom the propensity of ESPN (**owned by ABC - see below) from times past. Could be so long, Lou. Let’s see all the lamestream herd begins its screaming outrage .. that seems to be the formula for them. They rile each other up and then announce that the ‘public’ is upset, which they then, of course, must handle.

Good for him, regardless.

He doesn’t need the money and if the Communists fire him, it’ll enrage the majority of the viewers and likely prompt more to vote anyway.

Sarah Palin jokes would be fine of course

Oh, of course. And don't forget Christine O'Donnell "witch" jokes.

I remember this vividly. In the fall of 2008 Chris Fowler saying on the Saturday AM show game day that anyone who doesn't vote for Obama is a racist. I remember the look of shock on Herbstreet too. I cant remember how the subject of the election came up though.

I've liked Lou Holtz for many years, long before I had even an inkling of his politics.

He was a good turnaround coach, taking programs from mediocrity to a championship level. In fact, a large measure of South Carolina's success under Steve Spurrier is due to what Holtz did for that struggling program.

And his good-natured banter with Mark May is among the reasons I stay up late on Saturday nights for "College Football Final".

There are some Usenetters who make fun of Holtz because of his resemblance to Granny on "The Beverly Hillbillies" and I'm sure he takes that in good stride given his numerous accomplishments. At 73 years old, I hope he has many more years of involvement with college football.

There is absolutely NOTHING in the story that indicates that Lou is in ANY trouble with ESPN. It's nothing more than some blogger's random thought that "gee, ESPN suits are liberals so they must be ready to fire Lou over this!"

Nothing more than the musing of an idiot who has no idea of what he is talking about. Lou Holtz has made political statements for years and obviously ESPN is fully aware of it. He even appears regularly on Hannity's Great American Panel and makes his conservatives views known. You can bet that nothing in Lou's contract forbids him from doing his political activities; otherwise, I'm sure Lou would tell ESPN to stick it. The segments with Lou and Mark May are very popular. Lou would have to do something much, much worse than do a GOP ad to get in "hot water" with ESPN.

Again, this entire "story" is pure, 100% garbage. THERE IS NO *STORY*. The blogger is trying to make something of it to get attention. And you fell for it and gave it to him.

These Libtards have a broken record about O’Donnell, Palin, Bachman, DeMint, etc.

They are so guilt-riddled with the fear of not supporting a black man EVEN AT THEIR NATION’S EXPENSE is the irrational nature of modern Marxism.

LOL! I absolutely LOVE Lou!

Have you read the comments? They are great!

If they want to fire Lou, he will probably go on Hannity’s Great American Panel and tell them to stuff it!

Thank you so much for the ping!

Thank you for the link. I see you are still one of the best researchers here! ;o)

“Republican and Democrats can both agree on one thing when it comes to Holtz: Dr. Lou is easily the worst thing about ESPN’s college football coverage.”

My FRiend, kcvl...that is total crap.

That’s my opinion of the article...not of you. ;o)

Just for context, in 2009 the monthly basic cable subscription fee for ESPN was $4.08 a month.

For comparison Fox News was $0.58, MTV was $0.33, and Comedy Central was $0.14.

I do know that NFL analyst Marcellus Wiley is a known Obama supporter. But he's never really said it openly on air on both the TV and radio side of ESPN, mostly because you don't want to upset advertisers who've paid BIG money to advertise on ESPN.

Colin Cowherd is an interesting case. He's known to be against extremism on BOTH sides, because he sees that die-hard dogmatic views causes more problems than it solves, based on looking at die-hard sports fans--especially in SEC college football and Philadelphia-area sports fans.

“I remember the look of shock on Herbstreet”

Herbie’s a good TV guy, and I despise 99% of the talking heads out there, but he knows his Xs and Os.

I hope he IS a conservative.

(Off Topic) - I had breakfast with Lou about 12 years ago. How come he still looks exactly as he did then and I look 12 years older? This man is nothing but a bundle of inspiration ... even over bacon and eggs and a lingering coffee. He wouldn’t remember me, but I’ll never forget him.

If it wasn’t part of his ESPN job, then it’s none of ESPN’s business what kind of politics Holtz gets involved with. At first I thought this might have been something he said in the booth as part of his job. In his private life he can say whatever he wants.

He already looked ancient 12 years ago, so there was nowhere else to go.

Colin Cowterd is nothing but a sh*t-stirrer. The thought of all the times he got his arse kicked in high school does bring a smile to my face.
