You are spot on about not seeing a brand name in Whole Foods that you would see in other grocery stores.....
I don’t often shop at Whole Foods, but when I do, I make sure I have my iPod on and am listening to Rush Limbaugh. It sort of takes the edge off all the left-leaning reading material scattered around the store.
Trader Joe’s also attracts sandal footed libs.
Oh, my... I guess I'd better take the PCB (Panama City Beach) oval off my Camry...
I nwould agree that Whole Food’s clientele is over represented in the “trust fund baby” department. Some of the weirdest looking whackjobs I’ve ever seen.
That was a good read. I pass a Whole Foods on my way to the Walmart. I’ve been curious to stop in.
We must have been in school at about the same time. I made the 19 cents a box mac and cheese. If things were really tight, I would use only water.
Need a whole lotta money to shop at Whole Foods.

That’s why it’s almost universally referred to as “Whole Paycheck”.
Whole Foods has cashew butter?! Gotta get there, Trader Joes used to have it but they got rid of it. VERY tasty stuff. There’s a lot of tasty stuff in all these store, TJ’s is my favorite, followed by Sunflower, then finally Whole Food.
The HEB-owned Central Market, perhaps?
Lots of good stuff in there, but I can't put up with the liberal idiots long enough to shop effectively.
I had one nitwitted dumbass actually lecture me on the types of cheese that go with wine.
Unsolicited, uninvited.
And definitely unwanted, since the fool had pink hair and orange suspenders over a blue t-shirt that proclaimed he was a Sea Shepherd contributor.
I told him I preferred Cracker Barrel Cheddar with my Thunderbird and Whiz with my Ripple, but that for entertaining, it had to be Jalapeño Bacon with Mad Dog 20/20.
I thought he was gonna go apoplectic on me.
Hildy - you have to go to Whole Foods in Massachusetts to understand. I do believe it is possible to stereotype there. His description is pretty accurate. It’s a pretty intense crowd.
TRader Joe’s is one of the best food marts in America.
So is Whole Foods, though pricey and considerably more trendy than TJ’s. The owner of WF is a clear thinking CEO, unlike a lot of them. This piece was WAAAAAAAYYYY overlong, considering the rather predictable points that were to be made about that vanishing breed, ‘yuppies’. You’re more likely to find yuppie types at WF, but more likely where I live in suburban Bergen County NJ, very close to NYC, you’ll find people of all sorts who just need a break from their A&Ps and ShopRites. When you’ve got a few extra bucks, you will treat yourself to a little something at Whole Foods. THat’s what it’s there for, in addition to luscious and original prepared foods from Asia and the Middle East.Nobody ever said you had to spent $323.
Any copies of ‘BITCH’ magazine at the checkout, or is that only at the Hadley store?
And if the piercings are not enough to make you retch, the ones that stretch their earlobes (like some African tribesman from National Geographic) and permanently deform themselves will.
Hey, I wouldn’t have spent $323 there if I didn’t think the food was good! As for yuppies, the “Bonfire of the Vanities” set are alive and well here in Massachusetts. There are even subsets of same, such as DINKS (double-income; no-kids) and those with big incomes but still living at home with mom and dad (haven’t come up with a catchy acronym for those).
Your story has given me an idea. I should walk into Whole Foods, find the youngest worker I can find, and ask them where they keep the Soylent Green. I wonder how long I could keep a straight face while they look through all their soy merchandise trying to find it.
I love love love Whole Foods, especially since their Libertarian CEO was against Obamacare (write a brilliant op-Ed for WSJ last October). Tge left had all sorts of boycotts against them after that & our store in Pittsburgh picked up quite a few conservative shoppers as a result.
They take good care of their employees. I support them & always will, but truth be told, Trader Joes is my first love.
