On Palin: The Politics of Criticism vs. the Politics of Destruction
June 26, 2010 | vanity

Posted on 06/26/2010 1:15:17 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

It is good to criticize fanaticism, esp. BLIND fanaticism, but be equally weary of the fanatical Palin haters that parade around this site. Regardless of how some mask their true wishes for Palin in "constructive critic" guise, there are plenty of writers and thinkers out there who offer honest critique of Palin while having her and our country's best interests in mind and therefore want her to come out WINNING.

Most of the FR trolls who post the latest Palin hit-piece of the day could care less for Palin and take joy everytime she supposedly "falls." To these types, Palin is an enemy that must be destroyed for GOOD, not a leader with clear weaknesses to address.

There is something viscerally powerful about Palin that goes beyond her nonconformist style of operation and beyond her gender (even women such as Michele Bachmann and Nikki Haley do not attract the level of reactionary responses that Palin does.)

It's fascinating to ponder how and why God is using her and her family to invoke such captivating responses from people across the world. The hate, envy, and ultimately FEAR she is met with by some corners of society is truly remarkable...and some of the people most threatened by her continual rise to prominence happen to be members of this site.

One of the most glaring aspects of ignorance I notice on the site surround the issue of Palin's resignation. I don't think people realize (or are willing to realize) just HOW strong the agenda of politics of personal destruction against Palin and her family really is. I'm not talking about the media parodies and the leftist rumor mill. I'm talking about the fear she struck within those ever so quiet yet ever so masterful holders, movers, and shakers of power within the Obama circle, the Romney circle, AND the Republican establishment as a whole.

There were a ton of insiders whose basic assignment following the McCain Campaign was: "Operation: Destroy Palin." "Operation: Drive Palin Out of Office."

It's unfortunate that Palin treads such a thin line when glossing over the details about all the things that followed when she returned to Alaska after the 2008 election. Most of us do not grasp the enormity of the attacks she faced. Her family was literally bankrupt! Governors do not have the same shield of protections surrounding them the way Presidents do...

By not saying anything, she risks being accused of the "quitter" mantra --but by going into immense detail, she risks coming off as a victim who attracts too much drama.

The governor often addresses the greater public assuming they’ve read her book and they've waded through the lies surrounding her. But in fact, the deception and questions surrounding ter remains VERY STRONG. She has to be prepared to communicate clearly and slowly her story and her record of experience to a public who still know absolutely NOTHING about her. Even the people who think they know her, don't know her. She has to be DETAILED in her explanations of things, as if everyone's hearing these things for the first time. She cannot assume that peple already "get it."

Should Palin announce her candidacy for the presidency, I feel we must be prepared to watch many leaders and figures us Palin supporters have come to respect and trust come out of the woodwork only to stab Palin in the back and deny her their support when it'll matter most.

The more they trash Sarah, the more I support her.The fact that the left hates her is all the more reason to support her.

I believe Palin may be the closest thing to an honest politician we have right now. She may be the only one. That’s why virtually everyone in politics and in the media will gang up on her — she risks exposing how deep the dirty game playing really goes.

Palin is a REPUBLICAN. This is a CONSERVATIVE site. There is a difference.

You have crossed over a line. You are the fanatic.

Actually you make me sick.

Sarah Palin better learn to take the criticism of past performance and policy. The good with the bad, it will help her grow and shape into a formidable candidate. You can't browbeat and force people to walk in lockstep with you. To be a good candidate, the candidate has to win over the people who are not convinced.
If you can't do that, you might not win.

There is a huge difference between those that make stuff up about her personally or use sexism to demean her.

Other stuff is fair game.

We have yet to have a 2012 primary season start. She will take criticism from those in her own party. That is just the way it is. You are creating a thin skin for her. I doubt she asked for people to do that. You remind me of an obamabot. Only difference is you think you are above that because you aren't shilling for Obozo. Ideology may be different, but your method is familiar.

Um...I’m not suggesting anyone walk in lockstep with me, I’m only saying there’s a profound difference between critics and the haters. Many of the Palin “critics” on FR are in fact haters who see her as an enemy that must be crushed for good.

It’s like the difference between people who hate Obama’s policies versus the people who just hate him because he’s black.

Sarah Palin better learn to take the criticism of past performance and policy.

Since when has Palin haters objectively looked at her record as city councilwoman, Mayor, regulator, and Governor? When have they pointed out something she did wrong policy wise? The answer is never.

All of the criticisms leveled at Sarah are subjective. They say she's a quitter, she's not ready, she supports RINOs, she needs to hire a speech coach, etc. I have no problems with FReepers actually discussing her record. But they keep repeating the same left-wing garbage over and over again.

Very few want her crushed for good. Figment of your imagination. If she enters the race, puts herself up against the other candidates in the primary, and does well, She will get the votes.

No other potential candidate will be perfect either.

We have a year before the race gets going in earnest.

Give it time and let it play out. You might be surprised.

Au contraire. Until she formally declares a presidential run, she is a conservative. Right now she's a private citizen.

Truth is all you on your white horses step up to defend little Sarah who wants to be POTUS. I myself think it will be up to her to formulate a winning strategy. She will be campaigning for the toughest job on the planet, especially after Obozo leaves in shame. The mess left will be formidable and there will be very little room for error.

I guarantee you, feeling sorry for her for the nitwit fat rat behavior up in Alaska will disappear.

That won’t work as a strategy.

You see, this is exactly the kind of mentality that is so strikingly ignorant of reality. As if we can just expect Palin to go on be treated like any normal ole candidate in a normal ole primary process. And we'll just watch the normal ole process play out as it normally does.

PUH LEEZE. If we think the absurdist nonsense and pathetic excuses for humanity people in our government, in the elite, and in the media have displayed can only go so far when it comes to Palin---all I have to say is, we ain't seen nothing yet. And it's good to be honest about it and prepared: the kind of process and treatment Palin will receive will be NOTHING what the other candidates will have to face and will potentially be worse than anything she's had to endure up till now.

Don't get me wrong, I know she can handle it. I'm just saying she's not your average "Republican contender" -- people realize she's "special" and set apart from the crowd. Her candidacy would be transformational in a lot of ways, hence the massive fear she is met with.

My guess is that Sarah Palin does far more to promote conservatism on a slow afternoon than you will in your entire lifetime.

She’s a big girl...she can handle what comes her way. Meanwhile, she has announced that she’s running. She’s simply doing what she said she would do - help other candidates she believes in.

Your last sentence is why she won’t get the nomination. You said it, I didn’t. If you would cut that crap out, she might have a chance. I don’t see Palin as many of you do. I have my own theory about her and I believe her to be far tougher than you folks do, in a way. She is very ambitious and enjoys the limelight. Otherwise she would have disappeared by now.

She isn’t gnashing her teeth and pulling her out out over any criticism from anyone.

How is she transformational, other than she is a republican female?

You ignore the fact that she defeated an incumbent, well-known Republican Governor and a Democratic ex-Governor.

No one's pampering her or wants her to be treated with kid gloves. We realize she will have her work cut out for her. As you can see from her many Facebook posts and op-eds slamming the Obama administration, I think she can handle herself. What makes Palin so popular to the grassroots, and why we support her passionately, is that she is a true outsider and reformer. There is no other potential presidential candidate who will go to Washington and actually change it for the better. But you guys don't understand this though. You are used to backing establishment Republicans who will just continue the leftist agenda only at a slightly lower speed.

All I'm saying is if you're going to criticize her, then debate her record. Stop using leftist talking points and presenting them as fact.

From this point forward, I will be posting this comment on every Sarah Palin thread:

It is very distressing that many FReepers- who cannot support Sarah Palin as a presidential candidate- have begun to follow the leftist strategy of hateful invective.

Sarah is a fantastic standard bearer for Conservatives - putting herself in harm’s way to help other candidates and if you cannot support her - I beg you - do not destroy her.

I live in the SF Bay Area and the mere mention of her name makes some on the left become absolutely unhinged.

When you ask them why, they usually can’t tell you.

When pressed, they start reciting falsehoods about how she hunts Deer from an airplane, or other idiotic statements (The “I can see Russia from my house.” is another.) then they finish up by claiming she is stupid.

These people are willfully ignorant and intellectually lazy.

They believe every falsehood ever said about her, yet they deny any of her achievements, which are many, or they are dismissive of them.

Example: One lefty claimed he could also sell 2.5 Million books if he was a VP candidate the previous year.

Most Palin haters fall into several types of people:

Misogynists.
Envious.
Ignorant.
Stupid.

Unattractive, liberal women tend to become the most hysterical when it comes to criticizing Palin, while liberal men tend to be the most misogynistic.

I also predicted the MSM would do to her what they did to GW Bush, but only much worse in a much shorter time period.

After she gave her acceptance speech, I mentioned it in a thread. I said the media is going to go all out for the next 3 months to destroy her.

I knew that she would energize the GOP and that her presence was a major threat to the chosen one.

If I have time, I’ll do a search and repost it, but I’m sure others thought and wrote pretty much the same thing.

Sarah Palin resonates with the average, hard working American, and the liberal establishment despises people, especially a woman, a mother of five, that became successful without Government assistance.

The thinking by the left is that people like Sarah Palin, Joe the Plumber, and other hard-working people who strive to achieve and succeed on their own aren’t popular with the Dems or the MSM, and they and their message must be silenced by any means necessary.

There was a time in America when people like Joe and Sarah would be upheld as role models.

Instead they are ridiculed, attacked, and marginalized while shysters like Obama are put on a pedestal and idolized.

How is she transformational, other than she is a republican female?

She resigned from office when many politicians would have bitterly clung on to it and continued leeching off the taxpayers.

She doesn't attack other Republicans. She is attacking the true enemy, the Obama regime, Democrats, and the liberal media.

As an executive, she gets things done. She is an outside the box thinker. She's not going to create a blue-ribbon commission or pass the buck to another department. I guarantee you if she is elected President, she will do a top to bottom review of all federal departments and agencies and abolish the ones that are obsolete or duplicate another one.

Reading her book goes a LONG way to knowing the real Sarah...as well as separating the truth from the fiction about her.
