Look, the cop wrote me a ticket. He said it was my fault.
I took it to court. The judge dismissed it.
I had perfectly good insurance. They paid, but they paid as though I had had an accident that was my fault.
End of story.
I sometimes suspect it was because I had a California license plate and the truck had a Virginia license plate.
Although I don’t really know why that would matter to anybody. It’s just all I could come up with.

.......if you get rear ended it isn’t your insurance that pays for the accident, it is the person that hit you......
Unless it happens in Stewart Florida and you are passing through and get rear ended by a native.
You get the ticket for no tail lights. They are gone of course, destroyed in the crash. The accident report available only on written request for a charge of $5 names you as being at fault.
