Got a Lab myself, Backyard dog, doesn’t bite but is large and barks and runs the fence when anything gets near it. I live in a bad neighborhood and call her “Demon” when people are around.
I don’t think she would bite anyone but I don’t let the kids know that.
So, you're calling me a liar? Or do you believe no lab's ever bitten anyone?
My Amstaff never growled, snipped, snapped, chased, leg humped, or jumped on any person, dog, cat, squirrel, chipmunk, or baby.
I guess, using your logic, that means I should find it hard to believe any pit bull has ever bitten anyone.
How much do you want to bet this dog was a fighter trained by his owner to do as much.

Amen, wardaddy. The "solution" of banning pit bulls and other "wardog" types, would be worse than the problem. And I really, really hate pit bulls and don't for an instant buy the ol' "It's the owner, not the breed" crap. Of course it's the breed -- but so many people have so thoroughly bought into the "Dogs are people, too!" mentality that they equate discriminating between pit bulls and basset hounds as a form of canine racism. I think people have become so urbanized that they've lost all touch with nature.
I don't know what the solution is, and TOTALLY AGREE that breed-banning is the wrong option. I can think of a few things: being able to be armed with a firearm any time, any place, is one; for owners to expect that their pit bulls will be shot dead on sight if they're running loose on any property other than their own; for there to be extremely harsh, expensive consequences for the owners of certain breeds whose value is in their aggressive qualities (great guard dogs, for example) when those dogs are found running loose, etc.
But pretending that this isn't a breed problem but a people problem is just plain denial. It's like saying a rattlesnake isn't any more capable of killing a person than a gopher snake.

It seems that they go for the face/head because of many
years of breeding to fight,,,Kill,,,
They kill by biting the throat of another dawg,,,
Hold on and won’t let go,,,(breeding),,,
A person has a smaller throat area to bite,,,
The first reaction is to drop the chin,,,(Duck),,,
This is the reason for the bites on the face/head,,,IMO,,,
My yorkie was bred to kill rats,,,
That’s why he bites and shakes his toys...

Nobody seems to be able to find current stories about
anybody getting mauled/killed by anything but pits...
You didn’t realize that I was being completely sarcastic?
He's an overgrown pup, friendly, and quite affectionate, but the last time I returned him I had the "talk" with his owners about their neglect.
Kill an animal when you need to, not before.
I know that sounds harsh of me - just the thought of the poor child, and the suffering she went through, was heart rending. Most loose dogs are okay - except when they get in a pack - but you never know. Around here in my rural area, if a loose dog enters your property, you are entirely within rights to kill it, if you think it may harm you, your pets or livestock.
Dogs do incredible damage to livestock - gang up and kill and maul any kind of animals, even cows and horses, when in packs. THey don’t kill to eat, but just for the sake of killing.
People who own dogs should always carefully control them. Even nice dogs can all of a sudden bite people.
But any killing other than self defense is emotional blood sport. One sees it everywhere these days. And I do mean everywhere.
People should control their animals, but how can they do that when they can't control themselves? Poisonous people usually have poisonous animals.
You are right, and I do agree with you.
Right now the situation in the world is crazy and there is no easy solution to any problem.
The other point is that parents and guardians have to very carefully protect their defenseless children because the world is so dangerous - bad dogs and bad people.
When I was a kid I wandered by myself all over rural (mostly) and suburban (one year) neighborhoods, went for hikes, long bike rides, by myself or with another kid or two. No problem. I would never allow children to do that now.
That is one cute little dachshund! Bred to battle badgers but gentle enough to be around children and the whole family.

But they don’t. So what next? Keep all kids and elderly indoors and under armed guard, to protect them?
The answer is that everyone has to be responsible for thesmelves, their children and their animals.
But too many humans are feral and worse than beasts in the field.
That was always the answer and it still is. It seems to me not not too many recognize that fact.
Problem is that the gov funds irresponsiblity and protects the irresponsible from the consequences of their actions, so they have no reason to change.
And thus the responsible people are not only faced with feral humans (and dogs), but have to pay for the irresponsible people and their mess.
