"Whether the disloyalty is due to a psychotic episode or some other cause is not important."

The fact that someone could go through -- at government expense -- an undergraduate education with ROTC, then medical school at a US military institution, and remain a traitor to the United States is a significant warning. A very significant warning that the idea of Political Correctness has consequences we can't afford. Corruption of the Legions is one danger the Republic cannot endure.

The Legions remain faithful; but for how long when their officers are no longer faithful? Hassan had been through ROTC and a US armed forces medical school as a commissioned officer. Why was his failure of loyalty to the armed forces not detected earlier? But of course he was a Muslim, and it would not be politically correct to wash someone out of an armed forces medical school for lack of loyalty to the armed forces of these United States.

We sow the wind. We have reaped one whirlwind.

==========

The politically correct spin is coming like a tidal wave. He is a crazy guy who happens to be a Muslim. All of that misses the point: he was disloyal to the United States, and said so openly and many times; yet he remained a commissioned officer of the United States. That is the point that is being overlooked. Whether the disloyalty is due to a psychotic episode or some other cause is not important.

This is part of an excellent post dated Nov 6, presently shown at the bottom of the author's web page. The author, Jerry Pournelle, notes a book I'd like to investigate written by Richard Weaver, "Ideas Have Consequences"

I didn't even know about Pournelle's site, so thanks for this posting.

His and Larry Niven's INFERNO introduced me to Dante's original.

If I’m not mistaken.. Isn’t there an audio of Obama saying he stands with Islam? I forget where I heard it.. from his book?

There is a quote from his book that is often excerpted a little bit out of context.

When talking about Arabs in his Senate District he writes something like “They require assurance that I will stand with them if the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”

Niven and Pournelle were among the authors that hooked me on Sci-fi. I also liked Vonnegut (sp?) and Arthur C. Clark among others.

Yes, those are all goodies--Vonnegut's Welcome to the Monkey House was a great collection.

When I was a kid, my first-ever SF book was an Andre Norton. Her juvenile adventures were the equal of Heinlein's, to me.

How are the political winds shifting now, and who is choosing to stand with the American people?

Yes, the cause of the MSM's disloyalty is not as important as jettisoning them as soon as possilble. Although the cause should still be examined to prevent future disloyalty.
Causes like:

Agreed. I haven't read SF in years, but it's funny, every time I go to the bookstore, which is weekly, I wander over there and look around.

98% of it is Star Trek/Star Wars or LOTR variations or vampire romances.

The rest is postmodern navel-gazing.

The few space adventures are plastic, with boring characters.

So I read other stuff.

Sadly, Vonnegut wandered into the cages of the monkey house himself sometime around Breakfast of Champions. He got crazier and crazier (and leftier and leftier) as time went on.

Even late in life he did have Geraldo Rivera's number, though.

Yeah, Uncle Kurt went a little bats with his infatuation with assisted suicide and such. He was good early on, though.

I don't know what you mean about Geraldo--was Vonnegut a critic of that tool? Any references I can look at? (A friend is a huge fan and collector of Vonnegut, so I'd like to pass any info on to him, if you have it.)

Back in the days when he claims he suffered from "sexual addiction" Geraldo was "married" to Vonnegut's daughter.

The Wikipedia article on the alleged person you so charitably refer to as The Tool (it'll have to do -- saying what he really is will get us suspended) has only this:

Kurt Vonnegut mentions Rivera several times in various novels, including Palm Sunday and Fates Worse than Death, never in a favorable light. Rivera was married to Vonnegut's daughter Edith. They divorced in 1974.

I have to admit, even at my advanced age of 44, I am not only just as flabbergasted by female beauty, but even moreso than when I was younger.

I recall reading a book by Vonnegut Jr. (I think that’s Vonneguts son, right?) where he details his own collapse into schizophrenia. Once section I recall is that he was in a VW van with other hippie friends and he heard on the radio that there had been a tragic earth quake in Guatemala and he felt so guilty for letting that happen that he was apologizing to his friends repeatedly...

*chuckling* it’s that you express it so realistically *chuckle*.
I have not heard that men are still memorized by Sci-Fi book art at the ‘ripe’ age of 44 as they were in their youth - I’ve always heard that youthful levels of distraction imperil safe driving or stair climbing etc. and since the 44 year olds seem to handle stairs and driving better, I assumed levels of distraction were markedly down. I have not heard of men frozen from the neck down - perhaps they just can’t make it up the stairwells or drive a car so they aren’t out in public much? Well...I hope you end up in teh SciFi section of the bookstore this weekend! *chuckling*

I found myself thinking about the sanity of the culture that could operate without a conscience like that. Initially, shortly after 9/11, it was tribes in Afghanistan. Writers were placing articles about Pashtun culture online, stories about sexual abuse of children being ‘accepted’ in that society, stories about children who steal from neighbors or family guests winning the approval of their fathers etc. I marveled at just how damaged a society could be - I thought I had already read of depraved societies but this was different - where an entire village operates without empathy or lacks the inherent conscience to make them want to protect children from abuse. Around this time, ‘why do they hate us?’ was popular and I would listen to that and then look at these societies, so steeped in what must be mental illness from generations of life in an abusive barbaric society and wonder just what kind of conversation we were supposed to have with them. If they can’t comprehend that pedophilia is evil, that killing freely those who refuse to adopt your faith as their own is beneath human dignity etc, how would we ‘reason with them.’ To be able to reason, they need to hold the forces of societal sickness at bay. With protections in place to guard the ‘diversity’ of any culture, even if that diversity is a form of mental illness, means help is not headed their way. They must collide with decency somehow to escape this sickness. Otherwise, why would they even want to stop killing if they still felt it culturally acceptable. Mental illness as ‘cultural richness’. *sigh*

The reason for Hasan’s disloyalty and the reason for Hasan’s apparent psychosis are one and the same, here. Islam.

Furthermore, the fact that this was overlooked, and Hasan remained a commissioned officer, is also due to the same reason. Islam.

Behaviors that would have resulted in the removal of any Christian or Jew were given a pass. These behaviors were consistent with those to which believers are exhorted in the Koran.

Authorities can cling to political correctness, and manufacture all the tortured interpretations in the world in an effort to get around these basic facts. But, facts they are.
