Intel Atom chip again supported in latest 10.6.2 developer build
OS X Daily ^ | November 5th, 2009

It’s baaaaaack! Like a relentless zombie in a bad horror flick that just can’t be killed, the Intel Atom chip is now supported again in the latest developer build of 10.6.2, 10C53. This doesn’t mean much since it’s just a developer build, but for now Hackintosh Netbook users can feel a bit better about their uncertain future. StellaRolla reports:

…the latest development build Atom appears to have resurrected itself zombie style in 10C535. The Atom lives another day, but nothing is concrete until the final version of 10.6.2 is out.

So that’s all fine and dandy, but will the Atom truly survive? Time will tell.

No one has ever corroborated the SINGLE report that the Atom didn't work on the previous build... so this might not even be news.

This is probably a non-news PING! seeing as how there was only ONE uncorroborated report that the Atom did NOT work with the previous build...

I built my mom a dual-Atom micro PC from Newegg last Christmas for 150 bucks minus hard drive that i already had.
Works great, about the size of a small shoe box and uses about 15 watts of electricity.

Thinking of building myself one for out in the garage next summer.

I say it works great because i don’t get the bi-monthly phone call to go over there and rebuild her hard drive anymore.

Sounds like Apple is afraid of Atom.
They might end up being forced to use it to stay competitive and lower their massive overpriced hardware profits down.

File this one: You are an Idiot.

How’s your mac doing? Do you ever roll over on it at night in bed and crush it?
I said i built it for my mom, Not NASA.
Oh and slapping a motherboard with processor built in and a stick of memory into a case isn’t exactly rocket science.

Sounds like Apple is afraid of Atom.

Why would you say that? There is absolutely NO evidence beyond the one unsubstantiated report that the Atom did not work with the last build. Someone tested it with the new build and it does work. How does that equate with Apple being afraid of Atom?

In Best Buy I just saw an Acer clone of the MacMini
Same size or less
One gigabyte of memory with an Atom processor
WindowsXP

My buddy has an Acer Atom mini-notebook.
It’s really pretty cool, he can whip it out wherever he is and get the internet anywhere.
We used it a few weeks ago camping in the middle of the woods to plot our hike using google earth.
Best part is it only cost a couple of hundred if even.
