We have gotten persistent Win32 exceptions on certain websites since upgrading to IE8. The number of the exception changes, but seems to be related to an access violation. I suspect we have a security setting or permission set wrong, but since no one supplies documentation any more..... My wife contacted Microsoft (in the Phillipines), and got a newby from India who put her on hold until the connection was lost.

Have you tried the Compatibility button to the left of the Refresh button?
You should also post what operating system you are using and whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit.
For about 12 minutes.
Just install FireFox. Get rid of that crap!
I’ve not tried that in conjunction with this problem. Can I assume this button has functional and not just cosmetic affects?
Also, I’m using XP w/ SP3 on an older Gateway system...

Also clear out your Temporary Internet Files. That fixes a lot of problems.
What do the exceptions say...can you provide a little more info? It could be due to any number of things (e.g. a plug-in, toolbar, virus, etc)
Also, unless you must use IE I'd recommend that you start using Firefox instead (version 3.5.4 or higher, of course). However if you're married to IE and would like a little more help, let me know and I'll attempt to assist you. :)
I would also make sure you’re up-to-date (and/or reinstall) the .NET Framework code (2.0 or 3.5).
I have encountered persistent problems with crashes running IE8 on Windows XP - the problem appears to be connected somehow with hitting keyboard keys, particularly the page down key, which often but not always causes an exception - IE8 will usually be able to recover the tab, but it’s so frustrating that I end up giving up on it and simply launching Firefox instead...
There were some access violation errors with ie8 earlier on.
I would check to see if I had these two updates installed, Knowledge Base Article 932823 or Knowledge Base Article 946501, and if not, try to go to windows update and install them.
Thanks for your assistance. I have so far: downloaded Firefox 3.5.4- and it works on all the websites that have given us trouble (so far). I am anal retentive enough to want to know how to correct IE any way, so I will work through the suggestions and get results back via Freepmail.
Thanks again,
hh
