Did a search on Recovery.gov.........hilarious

TOPICS: Business/Economy
KEYWORDS: stimulus
Here are the 2 items I found for my little town.

College of St. Benedict received $85,359 for a "Work study providing need based financial aid" 0 Jobs created / saved

College of St. Benedict received $ 364,681 for "Acquisition of 400 mhZ spectrometer to enhance research training" 0 Jobs created / saved.

The small town down the road received $966,641 for the "Education fund" 0 Jobs created / saved

Ahhhh, the Federal Stimulus give-away at work........thanks to Nancy and Barack.

Having been layed off for the better part of a year, I go to the state unemployment website frequently. I noticed this on the site this morning:

"Employers - Mark your jobs that are directly funded in whole or part under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) or providing support for ARRA funded jobs by selecting "Recovery Funded Job" when entering new jobs or updating current jobs. Those jobs will be highlighted for special consideration.
Job Seekers - Look for the green dot next to the jobs in any of the job lists, which indicate recovery funded jobs. Recovery jobs are not just temporary positions; many are permanent. "

We have 10 grants for a total of a little over $2 million dollars that created 5 jobs or $445,693/job created.

Looking at the details of the grants, most are from companies or groups I’ve never heard of and can’t find any listing for in my town. Of the ones that do seem like valid companies, an auto glass replacement service was given over $100k (hole in the wall business). A company that I can’t find a single listing for was given $1.1million. The location is in the middle of no-where. A restaurant was given over $700K. A doctor was given $50K however, I can’t find him in the directory.

I took a summer driving trip - you could see the “Stimulus” dollars filling potholes from sea to shining sea and holding up traffic in the process.

Good ol’ fashioned payola to PO boxes and dummy companies, eh? Sounds like avenues for kickbacks to the pockets of politicians.

Here in Elkhart Indiana (you’ve probably heard about our unemployment rate) the little Municipal Airport got over $200,000 to repave the runway. That didn’t go over very well.

Yeah, we had big signs on the interstate that I take to work and we couldn’t understand why they were repaving perfectly good sections of road when there were plenty of other roads that could seriously use some work.

Most of these “jobs” are exactly what you described......repaving roads and highways for 1 or 2 months, then those guys are right back on unemployment. Very Sad.

Exactly. I'm friends with our local DA, so I am going to dig some more into the big one ($1 million plus) that I can't find a listing for the company and the address is suspect, and chat with him about what I find.

bump

What would happen if our press people actually did their jobs and looked into scams like this. We need to have a march on Washington DC to demand accountability.

Everyone should look at the local grants and see if anything fishy stands out.

Yep, got one of those here in Boise too.

$24,000,000 to repave I-84 and a new overpass. Jobs “created” 69. 69 that would have been working on other, or this, road projects anyways.

The work was going to be done no matter who paid for it. Money just came from the Fed instead of from city, county, state. Either way it came out of my pocket, and definitely didn’t “create or save” any new jobs.

That's funny, as in ha ha.

Does the 0.6 job applicant have to be very, very short? Or will somebody simply hack 0.4 of him/her away?

Or will this applicant simply work six tenths of the time?

Interested minds want to know before filling out the application.
