A report released last week reveals that most of us believe only teens from poor or single-parent families get pregnant. And we are wrong. According to research conducted for the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, only 28 percent of those who report having given birth or fathered a child as a teen lived in families with incomes below the federal poverty line.

“28 percent of those who report having given birth or fathered a child as a teen lived in families with incomes below the federal poverty line”

I wonder what percentage of the population is at or below the federal poverty line.

Good question. In the United States, 12.8% are below the poverty line according to the (reasonably reliable and objective) 2004 American Community Survey.

Hooray! Morals are breaking down across our debased, God-removed society equally! Boy, we sure improved things by taking God of the schools, teaching children that “liking themselves” is more important than actually getting good grades through hard work, and “accepting” the bad behavior of teenagers without stigmatizing them in any way!

Even teens who have abortions “got pregnant”. Any statistics that do not include ALL teen pregnancies are mythmaking.

So then, if 13% of the population is below the poverty line, but 28% of the teens getting pregnant are below the poverty line, then these kids in poverty are twice as likely to have these pregnancies.

They are playing games with statistics and numbers to make their political statement.
