MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin wildlife officials need wolf watchers.
The Department of Natural Resources is planning training sessions in November and December for volunteers willing to locate and count gray wolves and other carnivores. More information is available on the DNR's volunteer tracking Web site at http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/er/mammals/volunteer.
The trackers will have to conduct at least three surveys in blocks of central and northern Wisconsin forests.
So far this year 174 volunteer trackers have surveyed more than 8,000 miles. They have detected more than 367 different wolves.

Should be fun eh!
I’d like to spot them thru one of my Leupolds.
I'm just adding this as a ping to the last thread for anyone in the area. The only one I have is pickled, and it's a bit far. Are raptors fussy eaters, why only hearts?
Wausau Raptor Groups Appeals For Deer Hearts
WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) ― A raptor rehabilitation group in northwestern Wisconsin is asking hunters to have a heart for them, a deer heart that is.
The Raptor Education Group Inc. of Antigo spends thousands of dollars some months to feed the dozens of birds the organization cares for.
Executive Director Marge Gibson says it helps when the community kicks in to help with food, since the group depends on donations.
So this year, the group is asking hunters to donate the hearts of any deer they kill, instead of just throwing them away.
Gibson says birds can't digest a lot of fat, so hearts are great food because they are all muscle and packed with protein.
Zillman's Meat Market in Wausau is collecting the hearts.
I have a hybrid wolf I’d like to give to a good home.
Anyone in the Houston area is welcome to have him but please understand a wolf & wolf hybrid is not a dog nor do they act like one. They are not watchdogs at all & still have the hunt in their head. I wish I knew how to cut & paste. I tried dragging it from my desktop but to no avail.
Why would you even think of giving it to someone? They bond from a few weeks on. After that, no.
I had hybrids, not the best. I have two pure wolves, would never, ever think of passing them to someone. They bond at a young age, after that, now way.
Unless the hybrid is a low content it will never work.
BTW... I bet you do not have a “eolf and wolf hybrid” is it a wolf crossed with dog? Actually the term hybrid is not correct, the correct term is wolfdog.
Do we get to take our rifle? +
Yep. I was thinking the same. I need to try out the .308 I built on a Czech Mauser.
Donate the heart? But than how will I, an evil, EVIL Hunter conduct my ‘sacrifices to Satan’ so ensure a good hunt the next time around?
Actually, we hunter/woodsman types are very humane and honorable:
“Woodsman,” [The EVIL Queen] said, “I command you to take Snow White deep into the forest and kill her. Bring me back her heart in this box.”
The poor man pleaded with the Queen to save Snow White’s life, but when the Queen threatened to kill his family if he did not obey, he reluctantly agreed.
It only took a moment to find the young Snow White picking wildflowers outside the castle walls. Gently, he took her by the hand and led her into the woods, telling her he knew of a place where even more beautiful flowers grew. They hadn’t gone far when he stopped. “Snow White,” he said. “Your stepmother is a wicked sorceress, and has ordered me to take you into the forest not to pick flowers, but to kill you.”
“Oh no!” gasped Snow White.
“Yes, I’m afraid it’s true,” responded the man. “Snow White, I do not wish to kill you, but if I do not bring back proof that you are dead, the Queen will kill my family. You must run into the woods and never, ever return. I will kill a deer and bring its heart to the Queen and tell her that it is yours.”
With these final words, the Woodsman turned and left Snow White alone. He soon found a deer, and drawing his bow, shot an arrow through the animals body. He then cut out the heart and placed it in the box to take to the Queen...
She answers your question in the article you posted:
Gibson says birds can't digest a lot of fat, so hearts are great food because they are all muscle and packed with protein. The Raptor Center is just a few miles south of me. Marge Gibson does amazing work with these birds. You can read her blog to follow the progress of the injured birds in her care.
Regarding the wolves..they were delisted as an “endangered species”here in Montana...when the tags were available at the start of the hunting season..they were all snatched up..the quota of wolf tags were fulfilled quickly...it is/was sad to see that these harvested creaters in photo ops in our local paper here in Paradise Valley...but then I do realize that it is part of the cycle of life..
