It is quite well known that Elvis enjoyed gospel music, and had first recorded songs in the genre in 1957, for the extended-play single Peace in the Valley. He would eventually record three full albums in the genre.

I really loved Elvis. Yeah, he had his problems, but at least he loved his country, served it proudly, and never forgot where he came from.

He really did have a very unique talent. Every once in a while, I stack 6 of his CD’s in my car player and hit the road. I have my own little private Elvis festival (grin.)

“How Great Thou Are” was Elvis Presley’s first grammy winner in 1967.
All of his ‘regular’ Grammy awards were for Gospel recordings. The only non-Gospel was the life-time achievement award or something like that.
Yes, the only Grammy Awards Elvis ever won were for his Gospel Music. Many people don’t realize that Southern Gospel music was his favorite, and he loved the sound of the Gospel Quartet. He actually tried out with a quartet and was rejected, prior to becoming a solo performer.

I spent a lot of nickels playing “You Ain’t Nothin’ But a Hound Dog” and “Don’t Be Cruel” in the summer of ‘56 at Lake Tejas. Those two played non-stop on the jukebox.
