The economic crisis combined with the election of a potentially anti-gun liberal to the White House acted as a big stimulus for the gunmakers.
But it seems that all that happened was that gun demand got pulled forward, because now sales are totally falling off a cliff.
A reader sends along some recent numbers from Ruger (RGR).If you look at the bottom line -- firearm sales -- it only looks like there was a slight sequential dip. But ignore that.
The number to look at is orders received in 3Q, which were down 80%. Due to their backlog, actual firearms sales only dipped a little, but they've only got a few quarters of that left, and then that's finished. The bubble is popped.
< -snip ->
This chart of Smith & Wesson (SWHC), which shows a clear series of lower and lower highs may since spiking in the spring may be proof that the gun bubble is just about finished. On an up day, the stock ended down about $.05 to $4.85, hitting a level not seen since June. Thoughts?

I think we're going to need a rebate like the car and real estate programs. They worked great for people needing houses and cars. I know there are people out there who need a gun or maybe would want to add to their arsenal. What better way to keep those GDP numbers up.

Excellent. Wingnuts wasted a bunch of cash on fancy paperweights instead of mailing it off to the Talibangelicals or Dick Armey.

At least we have the finger strength to pull the trigger.
You squishy liberals would likely rupture a muscle and break a nail. Good thing we are here to save your limp-wristed, pasty faced, androgynous butt.

Just returning the sarcasm dude.

Gun show next weekend. I’m not in the market for a Ruger, but I’m gonna pick up some ammo and magazines.
its all about ammo now. Most people have what they need or can afford. Ammo is still pretty short out there.
No job, no money, no gun. No mystery here.
Yep.
Have all of the delivery systems we need.
More food required.
Now, if only ammo prices would come back down to reality, I could complete my 'ammo fort'...
BTW, I’m proud to say that I’ve done my part to support S&W since last November (between a couple of AR-15’s and a J-frame Airlite .357 revolver)...
Ammo is available...
It’s all about who you know at small town bait and tackle shops....
;-)
I’ve got a fair amount of ammo put away, but it makes me feel good to pick up a box or two once in a while. I don’t get out to shoot much, but if the balloon goes up any time soon, I can more than feed my side of a firefight.
When you order something like that, do they make you pay anything up front? If so, how much?
The M&P15T was ordered from Express Police Supply in Kansas (they sell to civilians as well as to police, and have pretty good prices) and they didn't charge my credit card until they shipped it... The order for the Ferret50 .50 BMG upper from Spider Firearms required 50% up front with the balance due upon shipment. The Stag upper was part of a group buy through ar15.com, and it required full payment up front, as did the DPMS LR-308 from Clark Custom Guns...
I’m going to shoot it for the first time next week... I’ve heard lots of good things about them, which is why I went for it...
Part of my ‘buying strategy’ was to get the hardware first, just in case the Commies in Congress decided to jump on the ban bandwagon... I also made a serious investment in ammo, but I’m nowhere near what I’d like to have on hand. My next hurdle is to invest in the optics - but those are the least likely to become scarce due to government meddling...
Exactly. Just means almost everyone’s stocked up for the winter.
I have guns but was recently thinking about getting one of those “The Judge” I think made by Taurus. It’s 45 cal but also shoots 410 shotgun shells. So I went on line to a local dealer here on Maui Hawaii and he had posted the regulations and procedure of attaining one. After reading the regulations I put the whole thing out of my mind. It had a whole page of instructions etc. that were so bad I quit before I got started, not counting the classes I would have to attend after I got it. I understand they make it like that so people just wont buy a gun in the first place. Well , It worked with me.
Personally I haven’t bought any guns for a while, and have in fact sold a few. I also have a lot of ammo I bought in the Clinton years for those I still own.
In any case, it’s not about how many you own. As a wise man once said, “Beware the man who only owns one gun. He probably knows how to use it.”
Totally agree. I don’t really have time to shoot that much so I want to be proficient with what I have.
Ruger was my first.
My first was just a few months ago.
I just bought another AK-47 variant.
Would love to get one of those!
894gr!!!!!
Unless, of course, you have a large family in which case it very well might be about how many you own. ;-)
“No job, no money, no gun. No mystery here.”
Exactly. Nobody has any money to buy guns. Maybe that’s the idea? This administration has no clue what it’s doing. I think we’re being told it’s getting better but it certainly isn’t where I live. If it wasn’t for the gas drilling around here, it would be a lot, lot worse!
I am looking at getting either a Sig Sauer 556, FN SCAR, Robinson Arms XCR or a Remington ACR(assuming Remington comes out with the civilian version). Decisions, decisions.
If you want a shotgun, buy a shotgun. If you want a .45 Colt, buy a .45 Colt.
Since you live in Hawaii, I would suggest buying either a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500. You mentioned you own some guns so you might already own those.
I could use a Redhawk. and an LCR
A 50 Bmg upper for what?!!!
We always thought they would come for our guns, then we thought they would come for our ammo. It turns out they just came for our money.
Weisenthal is an idiot. His own chart shows gun sales exploding the day after Obama was elected and remaining at 250% of what they were before the elction. "falling off a Cliff?" LOL! Typical Liberal asshat.
Weisenthal probably wrote this while sharing Jayson Blair’s hot tub, and their left wing wet dream became another warped oped posing as news.
Weisenthal should stick to writing articles pushing the gay agenda:

Ha! Good to know. I never heard of the guy before.
For an AR-15 lower...
I want a New Vaquero. (.45 cal)
I guess he’s all wee wee’d up because the gun mfg’s are making too much money,
bohicaarms.com
Not sure why their site is down. They added a forum a while back. Could have something to do with that.
While gun sales have slowed down, a dip in the stock price does not really mean anything with regard to sales as the stock price depends on many other factors other than just accounts receivable figures.

Be Ever vigilant!
Whoever wrote that article only selected a few points in the industry... basically wishful thinking. Our sales are still up and strong, ammunition sales are still insane, and Obama’s push for communisim and the collapse of America will fuel even greater sales in the near future.
Sadly, while we’re doing well, I’d rather it be for different reasons.
Mike
I did not know they made them.
Gotta link? I bet thats tuff on the shoulder
That would be nice.
16% unemmployment, go figure.
There's a lot of discussion about the merits of different uppers here on ar15.com
Many (most?) of them are shot from bipods or rests, but some of them advertise the capability to shoot from a handheld, standing position (especially the ones with the shorter, 18" barrels). When I get mine, though, I'm going to look into putting some lead weight into the A2 stock that I plan to use (and will only shoot it from the bipod - I'm getting a 36" barrel).
The humongous muzzle brakes that most of them use help with the recoil (but make it "interesting" for observers behind the shooter and in the adjacent lanes)...
Thanks for the info.
3 boxes of 20 rounds of 243 ammo 2 weeks before opening day of deer season.
Normally Walmart has a display 6 feet high and 5 feet wide of the 6 to 8 most popular deer cartridges, with other calibers on the shelves and under the counter at this time of year.
Locally it does not appear the supply of ammo has flooded the market, nor is it even a trickle. What I have seen is a few tiny drops.
If I have time I want to see how much ammo is displayed a week from now ( 1 week before opening day of the deer season ).
The MSM has caused me to believe only what I see with most things they write about.
Re your post 17, one of the downsides of living in Hawaii I suppose. You ought to live in one of the semi-free states.
