POLL: If you were a liberal, which would you choose.

A) Single-payer Euro-style healthcare system but comes with a Constitutional amendment protecting human life at all stages of fetal development.

-or-

B) Limitless, widely-available abortion on demand - any stage, any reason. George Tillers as common as gas stations. Getting an abortion is as hassle-free as picking up a gallon of milk. But, the healthcare system remains what we have now and will never change.

(We all know the holy grail of liberals is single-payer with government funded abortions - not an option here.)

TOPICS: Chit/Chat

You're assuming federal oversight only. Even if federal law removed all restraint from abortion, you'd still have state oversight (which was the system we had prior to Roe v Wade IIRC).

I guess that makes sense. In the same way the 2nd guarantees my right shall “not be infringed”, it get infringed anytime I cross the bridge into DC anyway under the guise of “oversight”.

In any case, it was more of a theoretical question of what’s more important to them. I think they’d prefer single-payer, but tossing baby remains into a biohazard bag is pretty near and dear to their hearts.

I’d become a liberal rather than give up pro-life. But we would have to have to own a gold mine to fund the damned thing.

I’m with you. The most important right you have is the right to exist, even if they want to take all othe others away.

If I were a liberal I would, like Mitch Snyder, despair and hang myself.

so they’d kill others instead of the unborn, killing would still take place.

I don’t know what a liberal would choose in this poll, but I do know that in real life, liberals will keep fighting for BOTH.

I would go with A. Even if it would bankrupt us for life, at least we are not killing babies in the mean time.

I would go with A. Even if it would bankrupt us for life, at least we are not killing babies in the mean time.

"A" protects unborn babies, but at the cost of (perhaps even the mortality of) everyone already born, and grants the State the power to decide who lives and dies (and why). As another thread put it in the context of business regulation,

Does it frighten you to live in a world in which businessmen set the prices and conditions for providing your needs? Are you afraid of the power of “big business”? You’d rather have a politician provide your needs?

You’re trading a million kings for one. You’re trading a million powerful men for a clique.

You’re trading a world in which people become powerful by being good at what they do, being good at providing for their neighbors, and in its place you’ll choose a world in which people become powerful by being connected to the king and his inner circle.

Under option "A", one second after those babies are born, they lose those protections the State had arbitraily granted them, having done so only to gain your approval of their control over the lives of you and your neighbors.
