PAPILLION -- A missionary from Chile has pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy.

Sarpy County prosecutors had charged 23-year-old Claudio Gonzalez with forcible first-degree sexual assault, a felony. But after a deal with prosecutors, on Monday Gonzalez pleaded no contest and was found guilty of misdemeanor sexual assault of an incompetent person.

Gonzalez faces up to a year in jail at sentencing, which was set for Dec. 17.

Authorities say Gonzalez sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy who had passed out on a hotel room bed in La Vista after drinking some alcohol at a bachelor party in August. Gonzalez, who had been living in Bellevue, was a friend of the boy's family.

The religious visa category is one of the most abused classifications in obtaining immigration benefits thru fraud. New rules took effect in late 2008, having been revised after it became apparent the Muslims were abusing the old system to enter the country under false pretenses. Before, a person could set up an interview with the US embassy and bring supporting documents to the interview. If everything was found to be in order, the R1 visa would be issued. If the religious worker had a spouse and unmarried children below 21 years old who would be accompanying him or her, they would be entitled to R2 visas. Under the new rules, a previously approved petition is required to be eligible for the R visa. That is, there must now be a qualified petitioner, usually a church, who filed a nonimmigrant petition for the religious worker - and the church’s petition must have been approved.

I think the Sarpy county prosecutors should let the perp live with them and their kids for a few weeks and see how that works out.

this is insane to water this case down to a misdemeanor, really doubt that would happen with a female victim.
