Since when has Obama been a writer? Man, this never stops-first the Nobel Peace Price, now he’s the greatest writer since Cesar?
To: ignorancerunsrampant
Who says Caesar wrote anything? He had a former Briton rebel do his ghostwriting.

We are a laughing stock nation now! How embarasassing!
Can’t the idiot just say “He’s an excellent writer??!”
Since Caesar?? By the way, I don’t recall EVER seeing Caesar being singled out as a great writer. Soldier, yes. Statesman, yes. Leader, yep. Writer???...uh, no.

I’m waiting for the NEA to sponsor some artist to put a portrait of Obama in a jar of urine. After all, the NEA insists that it was not an insult or slur.

It’s not worth doing if you can’t get a $40,000 grant from the government to do it. The NEA taught me this.

Caesar was actually quite renowned as a writer. His Gallic Commentaries were praised by both his contemporaries as well as modern literary critics. He was also well regarded as a speechmaker and advocate, being considered in his time second only to Cicero.

NEA Chair Says Obama Most Powerful Writer Since Caesar
The NEA is always coming up with new ways of saying things. In this case "powerful" means "grandiloquent" and "writer" means "vain racist putz."

Here’s a link to the NEa website where he says it:
http://www.arts.gov/artworks/?p=13
This is the money paragraph:
“My answer is pretty simple. There is a new president and a new NEA. The president first. This is the first president that actually writes his own books since Teddy Roosevelt and arguably the first to write them really well since Lincoln. If you accept the premise, and I do, that the United States is the most powerful country in the world, then Barack Obama is the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar. That has to be good for American artists.”

Exactly. I noticed the link on Drudge dealing with this content linked to two critical articles on N(ational) R(eview) O(nline). One took the perspective of assessing this comment as one of political power and the other literary power. I found both brief articles interesting in their analysis if for no other reason than they interpreted this power in two very different ways.
The first article critical of this silly comment by the NEA chairman looked the political power assessment. While well argued and forthright in disproving this inane comment regarding Barack Obama did not mention Hitler's "Mein Kampf" which as you mentioned is one of the biggest in contemporary society. I am very happy you brought this up. And look at how positive "Mein Kampf" political power yield was. I say that with incredible sarcasm. Meaning even if Barack Obama's writing of "Dreams of My Father" were powerful in what its political power yield was and is (which I believe it was only powerful during the campaign). This is not neccessarily a positive or a positive influence.
Artistically? Its literary value? Hey lots of memoirs are written. Lots have artist advantages and disadvantages, but Barack Obama doesn't even make the long list of great or artistically grand memoirs in my book. We did it and that is of value and sometimes outside of what the artist reaped this is the only value it holds for others. This is also true of Barack Obama. Did he right it all on his own. Then he joins the millions in those grandstands that have. If he did write his books on his own, he does not even get to sit in the seat with the others. He is relegated to the parking lot, maybe to having his own private tail gate party. LOL.
His literary influence at best is limited to the grandstands of those of us that write our books. I see him completely as a narcissistic charlatan. His book(s) are all part of this ruse and ego feeding. He is a politician. Nothing more. Nothing less.

If you accept the premise that he is a writer (because he must have written something, sometime, although there is no direct evidence) and he is the president of the United States (therefore the most powerful person on earth), it follows that he is also the most powerful writer on earth.
