Word For The Day, Monday, 10/26/09

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

Sobriquet; noun

1.An affectionate or humorous nickname. 2.An assumed name.

Etymology: 1646, from Fr. sobriquet "nickname," from M.Fr. soubriquet, lit. "a chuck under the chin," of unknown origin (first element probably from L. sub "under").

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

When one contemplates that Bush 43 bore the sobriquet “Dubya,” while the present occupant of the White House is called “Zero,” one begins to get a whiff of the trouble we’re in.

My baby boy, known on FR by the sobriquet "xsboy" turns 18 today. Since seniors in HS no longer bring cupcakes to school, i brought them in to OUR classroom.

Yep, she sure would have, but for some reason, I believe the Kennedy’s struck a deal with Billy Boy that kept her from achieving it. As for Soros isn’t he a Kennedy wantabe and didn’t he work for Billy Boy?

George Soros is far bigger than kennedy and clintoon put together. if anything, they worked for him. he singlehandedly devalues currencies etc.

Among many conservatives, the current President’s sobriquet is “Zippy”, but I’m not sure where that started. Could iy be short for “zip, zero, nada”?

Yes, I know who he is or should I say what he wants - to be crowned king of the world. Like Satan, he thinks a person (or country) will sell their soul. He’s been proven wrong before (Bush campaign)and undoubtedly more times prior to that and will be many more before he goes to join Satan.

Money doesn’t buy the thing that is important to most people and that is integrity and self respect. Which is why people like Soros are never really happy because they have neither.

Well other than the gale force winds and typhoon squalls, and the dearth of fans in the stands...it was pretty miraculous that we made $90. we gave a crapload of stuff to the guys in the homeless shelter because we had to take the tent down before the game was even over. It kept lifting off, we had to station our hockey players to hold down the dang tent and joked that there would be a whole BUNCH of balloon boys going up at once if that tent lifted off and went over the US capitol!

Wouldn’t they have been tent boys, not balloon boys? Glad to hear you made a little bit of money.

For what was supposed to have been a rain day on Saturday turned out to be absolutely gorgeous. We hit 83 degrees and the sun shone all day. It didn’t start raining until after 9, but when it did start it sure as heck rained and the wind was awful. Of course I wasn’t thinking about the chance of rain when I left the car windows open.........
