Actually, he was told that by the factory representative teaching the class.

Let me clarify. He’s gone to bed, I should say I’m not sure if it was the toyota hybrid or some other model hybrid. There’s no need to be insulting, he knows his stuff.

He is chief technician in his garage, fully ASE certified and has taken special seminars for these vehicles. Is that enough? He’s more well read and intelligent on such subjects than many engineers I know. His specialty is racing engines. He’s not your average mechanic.

He’s been told this by some of the people who teach these classes. People HAVE been electrocuted on them, I’m not sure if during an accident or while working on them. Many people are unaware of the huge current in these things. You have to pull some sort of fuse with lineman’s gloves before they are safe to work on. They are always “on”.

His concern (and this IS his own opinion) is that after many years autos usually do have some electrical problems, wires short and such, and he wonders how the hybrids will age with regards to this. It is a new techonology.

As a family we’ve discussed this, and decided until the technology ages a bit, we aren’t buying any.

Hmmm. Think about it. Say you are bleeding to death, or whatever, inside your vehicle. My relative says you are not supposed to touch the vehicle, mechanically, unless you pull out the gloves and the fuse.

Suppose the fire department does not have someone there with such training, and they deem the vehicle “unsafe”. Seems to me the protocol, despite the condition of the person, would be to sit back until the proper person comes.

I’m just guessing here. It’s a train of thought I’ve never pursued before. But how many times have we heard about police not going into an unsafe situation, like Columbine, while a person died?

I’ll have to ask an EMT I know if they have heard anything about such rescues.

OK. More fodder for the lunatic fringe.

Shortly the circular firing squads will be gathering...
