Word For The Monday, 10/19/09, Date

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
palimpsest; noun
1. A manuscript, typically of papyrus or parchment, that has been written on more than once, with the earlier writing incompletely erased and often legible. 2. An object, place, or area that reflects its history: "Spaniards in the sixteenth century . . . saw an ocean moving south . . . through a palimpsest of bayous and distributary streams in forested paludal basins" (John McPhee).
Etymology: [Latin palimpsēstum, from Greek palimpsēston, neuter of palimpsēstos, scraped again : palin, again; see kwel-1 in Indo-European roots + psēn, to scrape.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
Will there bea public option in the palimpsest of a health care bill?

No pushing at the door please!
morning.
Perusing through the palimpsests from lst week this early Monday morn...
I pulled out the palimpsest of Harrod's Cookery Book and followed the 120 year old recipe using the 60 year old set of pastry tools that were Grandma Moore's. Here are the results:

And Vast, I used some of my saved bacon drippings in the crust. Yum!
A rare Obama palimpsest, written on the back of an envelope on the way to a political event, indicates that the original text of his speech was, “Read the teleprompter.”
A++ glad to hear it [tagline], mik! ; )
They look YUMMYY!!!!!
those are beauties, but i cannot think of Meat Pies without imaginging huge roaches crawling out of them. i just think if you sliced into that, a big fat bug would crawl out! in addition, you have WAAAAYYYYY too many knives there.....
A++++ GREAT hw! how are ya healin, fella?
Thanks. They are. I usually serve slices warm with beef gravy over them. It’s a major production to make them, though. Preparing the filling and crust takes about an hour and a half and they slow bake for 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Isn’t that always the way? You spend hours upon hours in the kitchen, and then it is eaten in record time :)
We went to a lecture on local history studying old cemeteries here last month and learned some interesting tidbits. They use sidewalk chalk to help illuminate and discern the writing on the palimpsests known as headstones. It doesn’t cause any damage and really makes them easier to read.
I love that countertop with the dark cabinetry.
cool! A+++ i was leafing through a local free newspaper while waiting for xsboy after his hockey game yesterday and saw that one of the H’ween activities in Old Town Alexandria is a demonstration of 18th century mourning rites. you attend an actual “pretend” funeral. kinda weird.
but don’t the dual knife blocks there on the counter make you think that he may perform dismemberments on the kitchen table?
Guys can’t HAVE too many tools.
is that a knife sharpener next to all those blades?
Thanks. I had to do something to brighten the kitchen. The floors are dark wood, and the previous countertops were dark, as were the appliances. I added the new countertops and got stainless appliances and shelving in 2007.
Yes it is. It’s electric and has a ceramic edge for final honing. It also will sharpen scissors and kitchen shears.
Even in the kitchen, I’ve got waaaay more tools than I need.
tools are fun, ain’t no way around it!
How true. Frankly, I'm green with envy over those counter sets.

Joe Biden provides clear evidence of his credentials as a great military leader.
A++++ EXCELLENT example!
I was shopping for one recently and everyone told me to just get a new set of knives. Are you happy with yours?

Shop around for prices. I believe I paid about $99 for mine. Metrokitchen has it for $129.
Did anyone see, this area made it to Fox News over the weekend -- we spotted a piece on the snow in Binghamton.
I will do some research. Thanks.
The plank that allows
all my stuff here to rest
the substrate of layers
that make up a nest
the only solution, should something go missin’
is recounting the instant of its deposition
then trace the strata to find it’s location then
extract it, not touching the stuff that it isn’t
tactics, precision, a measure of guile,
is fully required to manage this pile
Don’t search unaided,seek my help, lest
you derange and obscure it— this pile-impsest
0bama’s speeches are mostly palimpsests scrawled in on the pages of Das Kapital.

That was excellent! Welcome to WFTD.
A feast of palimsests; a jumble of mumbles; a too-stretched Etch-A-Sketch; the truth and all its cousins caught up in a fatal family feud...
Well, palinest the best candidate, the most ethical and determined that I have seen yet.
Of course, the dnc and our favorite RINO squads are determined to destroy her for that very reason.
Good poemetry!
A++ i didn’t see but did hear on Fox News that binghamton had the earliest snowfall on record this past weekend.
that is TERRIFIC! A+++++
A++ i believe it!
A++ even though you handed your homework into SIG!
well that was almost purt near half decent hw Robt ; ) A+
WOW...Just-WOW.
Just so I am clear 50 years ago TOTUS would have been been palimpsest?
Do I have that right or not?
yep, A++ : )
Congress is little more than a full-blown orgy of the palimpsest of bills unread and a plethora of pending oppressive legislation likely to break the financial backs of each and every taxpaying American. (phew!hope that came out right!):P
A++ it’s depressing, ain’t it?
When election time comes I will vote for the candidate who is most Palinest
you copied off robt, but i won’t hold that against ya! A++
Well, if you have to cheat then you might as well copy off the best.
