DETROIT — Race officials say three men died of what is believed to be cardiac arrest during a marathon in Detroit Sunday.
Officials told the Detroit Free Press that two of the men collapsed at the finish line, and one man collapsed around the 12-mile mark at a drink station. It was unknown whether the men were running the full or half marathon as part of Sunday's 32nd Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon.

A marathon in Detroit!? Must have been running from some of the locals. City is full of thieves and hand out recipients.

I can believe it. the sight of a finish line drives people to push themselves too hard. And there’s something about stopping suddenly that can make you feel like passing out.
Detroit isn’t exactly a city full of healthy people. Thousands here are union workers living off of early retirement with nothing to do with their lives except drink and smoke cigarettes.
Yep. After a long run, never, ever, ever just stop. It can be very, very bad. Cool-downs are an absolutely essential part of a run.

One of them got lost in the abandoned zone and died of starvation. One got killed in a gangland shooting and one had race-related heart attack. =0)
A few years ago, my cousin’s wife was training for this marathon. She rose as usual around 0500 and hit the streets about 0530. Their neighborhood was sort of safe. She hadn’t been out long when a firefight erupted around her. She said she could actually hear the spent brass hitting the street. She turned around, returned to the house and roused her husband. She said she’d had it and they’d better get out. They sold their house near W. Lafayette and moved out to Grosse Pointe. They both still work in downtown Detroit, but make it a point to be back in Grosse Pointe before dark.
They should think about getting out of Michigan.

I find your use of the broad brush to be offensive. How many of those people do you know personally? How many do you know that are just drinking and smoking cigarettes?
The ONE I know, and others, are getting their degrees, finding other employment, or going into their own businesses. They’re hardly using their time to “drink” and “smoke cigarettes.”
Drunks, smokers, welfare queens running a marathon. Where is the surprise that they conk out?!
But surely you're kidding. Are you stating for a fact that merely tens, or maybe hundreds of former union thug drones, are now "iving off of early retirement with nothing to do with their lives except drink and smoke cigarettes"?
Surely out of a population of nearly a million people, thousands (even 1001) would truly fit that category...not to mention the career welfare thieves that never worked a day in their lives.
I'm pretty sure that most of the motivated people you refer to who are "getting their degrees, finding other employment, or going into their own businesses" are not cut from the same cloth as the true overpaid, underworked, ignorant and violent union thug.
So, I'm pretty certain that "thousands", as a guestimate, was not gross overstatement.
