An Australian beer company has landed itself in Disney's cross hairs with an ad campaign featuring the likeness of Snow White in bed with semi-nude dwarves.
The Foundry, brewers of Jamieson's Raspberry Ale, said the "Ho White" campaign, based on characters from Disney's 1937 animated film, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves," is designed to convince consumers the beverage is "anything but sweet," The (Sydney, Australia) Daily Telegram reported Friday.
The campaign, which includes advertisements online and in bars, features "Ho White" blowing smoke rings while in bed with dwarves renamed "Filthy, Smarmy and Randy" by the company.

Hehe. That’s great. I miss Australia.
It is the duty of a company to protect their copyright, and by not enforcing their
copyright, it opens them up to “abandoned” status, so they must aggressively pursue any copyright violators, otherwise risk losing their claim to said copyright. People always whine and say, “oh, its just a gag, let it go...”, but unfortunately its not quite that simple.
At least, this is standard practice in American law, but I do not know about Australian law on derivative works, fair use, etc. on this matter. The picture however seems to be a pretty blatant rip off. Perhaps they should have used the German (?) original story depiction of Snow White instead of the Disney version.

I rear-ended a car this morning... So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn’t believe it... he ...was a DWARF!!! He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, I AM NOT HAPPY! So, I looked down at him and said, Well, then which one are you? And then the fight

The campaign's official website, anythingbutsweet.com, could not be accessed.
The Foundry's site had featured pictures of Ho White but links to the campaign appeared to have been disabled.
Australia's Food Week website speculated that this may be due to a copyright infringement.
Disney was not immediately available for comment.

I can see how riled up everyone is that someone ‘used’ Disney characters to put out a ‘semi-porn’ ad, but the reality is that Disney has been making ‘dirty cartoons’ ever since they started.

The spelling “dwarves” was invented by JRR Tolkien as an analogy to “elves.”
Lord of the Rings has been so influential the spelling has become probably more widely accepted than the “correct” dwarfs.

The Brothers Grimm are not amused.
What’s Disney’s beef? They just adapted the Grimm fairy tale themselves.

I know. I had to stop and think a minute ‘dwarfs? dwarves?’. But Disney used Dwarfs in the title. Personally, I never liked the story - SW was a wuss (’Oh the trees are scary!’) and cruel to boot, leaving the dwarfs brokenhearted when she just up and left ‘em for the Prince, after all their care of her. No spirit, no gumption, no courage. Give me Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She faced down the Beast, made a sacrifice to save her beloved father and had much better clothes than SW.
“You WILL come out to dinner!”
“Oh, NO, I WON’T”.
