Word For The Day, Wednesday, October 14, 2009 - wiki
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary Word of the Day ^

Posted on 10/14/2009 5:52:24 AM PDT by VRWCmember

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

wiki

a Web site that allows visitors to make changes, contributions, or corrections

Example sentence:

The corporation has designed a wiki to make communication and collaboration simpler and more efficient among its employees worldwide.

Did you know?
Today, wikis are common stops on the information superhighway; however, they only date to 1995, after computer programmer Ward Cunningham introduced his software WikiWikiWeb to the world. The software, whose name is based on a Hawaiian term for "quick," allows Web site visitors to contribute content to its pages and comment on and make changes to information posted by others. A site using the software is referred to as a "wiki."

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Here is my example with today's WFTD.

It is generally accepted that wiki sites like Wikipedia are not reliable as reference sources, but are they any worse than the mainstream news media?

Get to class you slackers!

It's about dang time!

Way too much of the four-letter word today. Try not to burn down the classroom.

Some spurious quotes on a wiki
Have been used to call Limbaugh a sickie
“He’s a racist, or worse
With the conservative curse”
So the NFL’s PC and picky

OK, I can't work "wiki" into this, but....

Even though it's still early, here is my nomination for the Quote of the Day:

They’ve captured the gigantic mouth well, but the waist-size and belt placement are a bit flattering.

I cannot express how happy I am to get this weasel out of the House of Reps. The worst moment for me was when we moved here and I realized HE represented me. I was very excited to see that there was actually someone running against him for the coming election. Edward Lynch! I kinda wonder if Lynch is not the real reason Wexler is stepping down. I mean, it’s not usual for a politician to step down in the middle of a term.

That was the the prize winnin’ receipt at the annual Atkinsonville Cosmic Gazette cooking contest and Max, who is Germain and has six names and is real smart, said red wine would take care of the doughnut backup that might, I say, might happen.
Max also operates our linotype machine since Louis fell into the back of it and ended up as a bunch of paragraphs on page two. We ate his leftover Krispy Kremes in his honor.
Anyhow I asked Max about this WIKI stuff and he said it might be like wicked but foreign or something. Then he looked in the lumberyard mailorder catalog and found wicker furniture so that’s it.
WIKI is just some bad furniture. And if anyone out there is sent to rehab by Judge Lipscum, it sure isn’t like what they show on the cable t.v.! Electricity and needles!!!! Makes my hands shake something awful to think bout it.

OK, I thought we’d be back down to 7000 by now but I have the following excuses:

The Fed and its quantitative easing is trashing the dollar, but the down dollar is translating into an UP stock market (of course not when you price the dow in gold)

I’ve been re-balancing towards foreign funds for a while now: their stock markets are up as much or more plus you get the upside of being out of losing currency.

Well, you may make the money you invested this week tomorrow or Friday. It used to be Fridays and Mondays were the days to buy the Big Boys, but I’ve noticed recently that Fridays and Mondays are days to sell.

I can’t emotionally nor intellectually get into the markets right now. It’s as if everything I learned at ten different seminars have washed down the drain. I have to see a pattern. Actually, seven out of ten patterns, kind of like DNA.
