Attorneys for Roman Polanski met with Justice Department officials and presented arguments against extraditing the jailed director from Switzerland, where he is being held, to Los Angeles to face sentencing for his 1977 criminal case.
Polanski’s lawyers recently sought help from Obama administration officials in the Justice Department requesting that they not return the filmmaker to America, according to court documents filed in L.A..
Members of the director’s legal team met with a deputy assistant attorney general and other Justice Department officials on Oct. 2, according to the appellate court filing...

I doubt Obama is that stupid. My guess is support for this POS will erode. He will get extradited and get some sort of BS parole deal. The liberal rich and famous are given different laws to obey.

Polanski’s not just a rapist - Polanski is a pedophile rapist. ASK any prosecutor, law enforcement officer, or probation officer - they do what they can to keep guys like this off the streets and in jail. WHY? Because pedophiles like Polanski are REPEAT OFFENDERS. How many other young girls did Polanski drug and rape over in Europe? I had this question also. Yours is probably the key post on this thread.
Hollywood (and all the geographical/professional tentacles this general word encompasses, including its various unions) is calling in some of its markers on Obama for the enormous amount of money and support it provided for his election. This is the answer in a nutshell.
Neither you nor I, let alone our lawyers, could get an appointment with a Justice Department janitor if we tried.
Obama supporters at every level are begining to get special treatment, while we, the people, get the shaft.
When the bloodless coup now underway is completed there will be two classes of citizens in this country.....the Obamunist elites, and the Gulagian serfs.
The favoritism now underway (for instance, the Justice Department's whitewash of Black Panthers' armed intimidation at a polling place) is nothing compared to what it's going to be in our Orwellian future.

Yes, this was my thought, too. The Hollywood elite are accustomed to dealing with Big Time lawyers, and Big Time lawyers have their networks. There are plenty of connections between the major power centers—L.A., New York, Chicago, and D.C., to name the most relevant ones in this instance.
And of course these lawyers deal in lobbying, among their other activities. And many of them cycle in and out of government.
Wouldn’t that decision make for some interesting news reports: He would be toast if he doesn’t extridite, but then again out Slime-Stream Media wouldn’t report it. Nevermind, I’ll keep quiet.

I frankly don’t see what the Justice Department can do. This is a state prosecution, not a federal one. It is the County of Los Angeles that will file for extradition, not the Department of Justice. The onle way I know for the Feds to get involved is via a pardon or a commutation of sentence, and I don’t think Obama is stupid enough to go down either of those roads.

Obama certainly cannot pardon or commute a sentence for a state offence. Not sure what role the Justice Department has in this. Maybe federal marshalls would fetch him from Switzerland rather than county sheriffs. The article really should explain the federal role in all this.
