I'm watching a collection of old news footage from the JFK assassination on the History Channel right now, and was wondering if any Freepers have any theories about what really happened.
I figure with the great wealth of knowledge here on Free Republic, there's got to be some pretty good theories waiting to be shared.
He was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald who acted alone in planning and execution.

Well I sure would like to know why Ruby shot Oswald.
I never bought the argument that he was overcome with grief for Jackie in particular and had to take out Oswald.

A guy named Posner (Gerald?) brought up some pretty convincing forensic evidence. You know how people at a military funeral `flinch’ when the rifles are fired? It’s an involuntary response, like when the doctor taps your knee with his little hammer.
Careful review of Zapruder’s movie showed three distinct, definite flinches, so three shots. Kennedy legend enablers/makers refuse to accept that he could have been the victim of something as mundane as murder by a deranged shooter. Those were darned good shots by the way, a head and neck shot from over 300 feet, some tree branches, and a moving target using an Italian military surplus rifle. The Marines turn out some real sharpshooters.
Btw, the third bullet (7.65 Carcano?) was found on a gurney and was hardly in the `pristine’ condition some of the conspiracists maintained: the base was deformed/flattened.

I’ve heard some interesting one along those lines . . . sometimes they include the notion that the Mafia was originally contracted to take out Castro but he convinced them to reverse it.
Personally I think it was Arlen Spector. And the magic bullet was back engineered from a special tin foil that one of the Roswell space aliens had used to keep his sandwiches all fresh and edible over long intergalactic trips. :)

See my comments on this thread. Mark Furhman solved this case once and for all by discovering ballistics evidence that had been hidden in plain sight for 40 years. There wasn’t a magic bullet. Two separate shots entered the vehicle as proven by the ballistics evidence that MF discovered. The medical reports and evidence corroborate MF’s theory.
LOL, what is it about the “unearthly child” that Oswald didn’t want us to know?

As I was reading the posts I was going to suggest the Furhman book, then I got to yours and you already had done so. I agree with the suggestion, a good book.

A friend of mine in high school had this suicide theory. Some really bad information was going to come out about JFK that would destroy his reputation and the nation. So he went to the CIA and they gave him a drug to make him super fast. He first set up Oswald as a scapegoat and planted other red herrings. In the motorcade he took the drug and ran up to the School Book Depository and shot at himself. He then ran back to the motorcade at super high speed but that didn’t work. Finally he ran to the grassy knoll and finished the job. Hey, I never said it was a good theory.
The doctors and nurses who attended the press conference the next day were unanimous that the throat wound was an entry wound. They also reiterated that at the Warren Commission.
Specter tried to get them to change their opinions.

Quite right. I’ve never bought into that silly theory that the bullet found on the gurney was a “plant.” This is utterly ridiculous. To believe it one must believe that the so called “single bullet” theory would been anticipated in advance. Then someone at assassination central presumably had the bullet taken over to the hospital that just happened to match the Carcano rifle ballistics. There’s been more silly stuff written about this event than any in history.
That is just too obvious, which is probably why it never gained any traction. Just more than any good Democrat would want to believe, even though the NE part of the Party was absolutely aghast at an uncouth Texan replacing JFK. However, if one just does a little bit of research on LBJ...well...

Most likely is Oswald did it with no one else involved.
Next most likely was the Mafia using Oswald and others.
Third and still fairly possible, Castro did it using Oswald and others.

He started a bootlegging business which even in 2009 continues to pay dividends and will in perpetuity..oh, wait, wrong Kennedy.
He drove off a bridge and left a young girl to asphyxiate..oh wait, wrong Kennedy.

I was watching that show as well. It was interesting. I saw some news footage I never saw before.
Mark Fuhrman addresses that very point in his book “A Simple Act of Murder.” I highly recommend his book. It was case closed for me.
I really had no opinion about who killed Kennedy until I read the in depth biographies of LBJ by Robert Caro. When I saw what LBJ was really like, there was no doubt in my mind that he HAD to be president and that was the ONLY way he would ever get there.
PS If you review the Zapruder movie, right after the back of the road sign you’ll see Jackie scampering over the trunk of the Lincoln—faster than Oprah in a buffet line.
Magnify the First Lady’s left hand (if you have that capability) and you will see the muzzle of a sub-nosed .38 `lemon-squeezer.’ During the confusion, when he slumped over she saw her chance and plugged him.

We just finished watching this... interesting info that Oswald was interrogated by the CIA two weeks before the assassination. And supposedly the planned transfer to the other prison via armored car was with hyper security, yet Ruby just walked right up and shot Oswald? Never thought there was a conspiracy before, but now, Hmmmmm.
I think it was Joe D’Maggio that killed both JFK and RFK to avenge Marilyn. He hired Sam Giancana thru his mafia connections and then Giancana sub-contracted the hit to Jack Ruby who easily set up Oswald because of his links to Russia and Castro. Ruby then whacked Oswald before he could talk and then...
