USA USA USA!!!!
Thanks, no doubt to team captain Barry O!
/johnny
Of course Barry scored the final goal and won MVP..............
I’m surprised O let us play, what with their illigitimate military coup and all.
Dang it, you beat me to it.
You beat me too it.
Why is any American interested in this silly European sport? A bunch of foreigners running around in shorts hitting a ball with their feet.
No thanks.
When does the long legged mack daddy get his trophy?
I hated to hear Dempsey would miss this game but things turned out o.k. Portugal, a team that look like it was on the way out, is sitting very good right now and Sweden, who was ahead of them has dropped to third. It looks like Crisitiano Ronaldo, a guy who was named after President Reagen, might still make millions in advertising dollars (make that Euro’s) after all.
They ask why people in the USA follow a stupid sport where nothing happens except for about 8 minutes of playing time, the rest is spent in a huddle or fondling someone’stesticles. It works both ways.
I was disappointed to see Argentina win to stay alive. I wanted nothing more than to see that Commie Maradona flame out.
that asswipe really hates the U.S. I hate that cocaine sniffer.
The problem is most Americans don’t get to see soccer played at the highest level. The MLS ain’t it, but a good EPL or UEFA Champions League match is as good sports drama as there is in any sport.
But watching competitive soccer as played in this country is like watching Single-A baseball.
MLS is not the highest level, but there’s nothing like supporting your local side at the stadium. GO DYNAMOOOOOO!
But for tonight it’s USA! USA! USA! I thought Bradley was nuts starting Casey tonight... but either he knew what he was doing or got really, really lucky. Hopefully we can best Costa Rica next week so that Honduras still has a shot at automatically qualifying with a win vs. El Salvador.
Before I check out I want to see Green Bay’s stadium and then a game in Lisbon, Madrid or Barcelona.
You are right. I watched the European Champions Cup final in a neighborhood tapas bar in Barcelona and then joined the crowds in the street afterwards. One of the most entertaining nights of my life.
When I go to England, I definitely want to catch a game at Old Trafford.
Actually what’s cool is that it is a Euro sport and we’re starting to beat them at it, using our fourth-choice athletes. Mexico and the other Central American countries are enraged because we’re starting to finish ahead of them. And the Euros are getting a bit nervous as we get better. The shock in Europe after we beat Spain in the 2009 Confederations Cup was very satisfying.
And, as mentioned above, this is with athletes who are left over after football, basketball and even hockey (although our forward Jozy Altidore could play any sport he wants to).
So this means that we win the World Cup by getting into a preliminary round, right? < /Nobel committee mode>
ESPNEWS showed the clips of the game...Tommy Smythe commented...
US defense didn’t look good when Honduras scored the second goal...
How lucky that the Honduras player missed the penalty...The ball just went wide...
About US fans unable to see the game live on TV...
There was really nothing US Soccer Fed could do...Honduras Soccer Fed had control over TV rights...

Come on, it's a sport that can be played by any country. African countries play soccer. Brazil has the best soccer players (remember Ronaldinho?).
Of course, it helps that you're experiencing the fandom of one of the most popular teams in the world, FC Barcelona, not only a GREAT team (with perhaps the world's best soccer player, Lionel Messi), but a team that is more or less the public face of Catalan culture, too.
It’s worse than that, it’s the sons of our soccer moms.
Adidas Teamgeist:

And it's not cheap--one ball is US$145 nowadays.
Isn’t it true that Barça is owned by its fans, just like Green Bay?
They’re a bunch of Reds around there for sure, but I don’t care; it’s one of the most wonderful places in the world.
No thanks.
And yet you took the time to click on a link and post on a thread about a subject that you have no interest in. How very odd.
