TUCSON, Ariz. When you're the biggest dog in the world, you make your own rules. You cruise by countertops of an outdoor kitchen and adjacent barbecue and lower your calf-sized head a notch to sniff out any crumbs from a recent party. You nuzzle up to a bystander, easing your floppy, foot-long ears into the middle of his chest to request some lovin'. You saunter up to a couch, twist your 42-inch-tall, 245-pound body into a puppy pirouette and land your rump on your owner's lap to take a load off. Big Dog!!! We have a 90 lb Weim who sits on the sofa or chair, just like that dog. We say “Take a seat” and he backs his rear end up to the chair/sofa and sits his rump on the seat, with his front paws on the floor.

I believe this one is taller ... but she's making her own rules too.

Why doesn’t the guy just keep a horse in his house? My friend has a newfoundland, and when “Eddie” wants to play, he knocks the furniture around.

And people think our 125 lb. German Shepherd is big. Sheesh.

Danes are so wonderful. I had two but my son stole one. Mine is a 32” tall female that weighs about 145. Absolutely the sweetest thing in the world. Gentle with kitties, small dogs and kids. They defintely think they are lapdogs. However, they are very intimidating to strangers. I'm alone most of the day here on the farm. If a man drives up that she doesn't know, she can be pretty scary.

All 4 of our Danes all loved to sit on the couch. I love Great Danes they really are gentle giants.

My St Bernard puts her paws on my shoulders like that, but
she`s not quite that tall.
Found out when you want to take a big dog for a ride you
pick up the front end first getting her in,then the back
end...whew
