Why do we care what celebs think politically?

I don't care what my hairdresser thinks, or the bagboy at the market, or the gas station attendant.

Why does a celebrity's opinion matter more than anyone else's? They're only performers - nothing more.

Why would that surprise you, she is from the South... one from the South that leans left and surprises me is Reese Witherspoon

This is very dated, with some of the comments describing the ‘08 RNC Convention as if it hasn’t even happened yet.

I don't care what my hairdresser thinks

Your hairdresser all of a sudden glances over at the TV in the shop and sees Obama and she growls. And you stay perfectly silent..

Riiiight!

Why does a celebrity's opinion matter more than anyone else's?

Because when a cool and admired dude or dudette has the guts to state their agreement with an "uncool" concept like conservatism, it gives confidence and validity to many regular folks who would otherwise be too intimidated by peer pressure to admit to, let alone act on, being conservatives or "squares-ville" Republicans.

We may not like that this is true, but it is true just the same. For that reason, I cheer when I see celebs show their courage and buck the overwhelming peer pressure of Hollywood to be liberal Democrats, and who instead speak out about the foolishness of liberalism. They are true heroes in their way.

He was on Ghost Hunters, too.

That guy is so freakin’ cool, he’s hot.

I wish I still had my 1970s Iron Horse centerfold of him sitting on his Harley.

*sigh*

Reese Witherspoon’s folks sent her to Nashville’s fanciest girls school here.

22K/year plus extras....in Belle Meade where Al lives and near where I used to before I left for the country south of there

Harpeth Hall...just send your little girl there and she will graduate very smart but strident and chinny and fully hear me roar femsotted and just brimming with politically correct platitudes for the asking.

and they are proud of it....just ask them..no wonder she is with younger metero what’s his name

several of Nashville’s very pricey private schools are extremely liberal

you want yer little darling to think motherhood is for nannies then by all means send her to Harpeth Hall ..she’ll get everything but a Bobbitt.

then she’ll be fully prepped for Smith or Hollins

I have friends who sent their girls there...all but one are raging looney left

I knew quite of few on the list. A couple I didn’t know but don’t surprise me in the least- Gloria Estefan and Andy Garcia, for example. A few, like Meatloaf, did surprise me a little.

Other comments:

Dennis Hopper: I don’t know if he was a conservative during his drug-and-drink days, but I remember reading he and Peter Fonda butted heads constantly during the filming of Easy Rider.

Sarah Michelle Gellar: Buffy is a Republican? Wow!

Kim Alexis: I was scratching my head at this one, until I realized I was thinking of Kim Cattrall. D’OH!

James Woods: One of the smartest guys in Hollywood. Serious brainpower.

Drew Carey: Carey’s more Libertarian than conservative. Definitely not a fan of the nanny state.

Maria Conchita Alonzo: Not on the list, but she sure sounds conservative when she talks about Hugo Chavez and a few other issues. Darn purty, too.

WTF, Britney Spears?

Remember, these are celebrities.

I do believe Britney grew up in Louisiana singing in her church choir. That she fell into the celebrity trap is sad. Perhaps once she's burnt through all her money she'll return to her roots.

Because they attract crowds. Do you listen to Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck et al? What makes you think they’re any smarter or more informed than anyone else?

Most of them don’t tell you anything original - especially Hannity. They get their material from others. Very often they just repeat it without citing the original/

Just think of Glenn Beck’s new book. It’s nothing more than a remake of Ann Coulter’s book.

So why not an actor or singer? They’re well known and the average person who is busy with other things besides politics will listen when they speak.

Take a page out of the left’s book. They’ve used this very successfully.

I think most, but not all, of the tony girls schools produce that type of girl.
I’ve seen it in different cities...especially out here.
My son-in-law’s mother went to one of those schools.
She’s now a closeted conservative. ;o)
