Two Teenage Girls Jump To Their Deaths Hand-in-Hand
Charlene Sweeney and Jack Malvern
Two teenage girls leapt hand in hand from a 125ft high bridge after escaping from a residential care home, police said today.
Neve Lafferty, 15, was grieving for her boyfriend who died suddenly earlier this year when she jumped with Georgia Rowe, 14, off the Erskine Bridge, a notorious suicide spot near Glasgow, on Sunday night.
The pair had escaped from the Good Shepherd Centre, a residential unit for young women with social, emotional and behavioural problems six miles away, just hours after seeing their families on a weekend visit.
Witnesses saw them leap holding hands from the bridge, which connects Renfrewshire with the neighbouring area of West Dunbartonshire, at about 8.30pm and plunge into the River Clyde.
After a major search operation involving police, fire and rescue, a coastguard helicopter and the Ministry of Defence, the girls bodies were pulled from the water and flown to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow but they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Two very emotionally disturbed young ladies.
What a heartwarming story God Bless them
How sad!

I wonder if the suicide rate off that bridge is related to the proximity of the centre.
heart rending
not sure if ‘heartwarming’ is the right word to use in this context.
And now their troubles really begin.
Id say the height of the bridge is the determining factor
Its exactly the right word
yeah, i thought you’d say that. i’ve seen you around. just wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt.
A better way to say it is "What a heart wrenching story. May God bless them and comfort their families".
Bump
What do you mean by “heartwarming”?
Crass and uncalled for.
have one here in tampa, 180 feet down to the shark filled waters. About 50% survive the initial impact. Most of those drown.
A few survive to be picked up by boaters who are usually in the area. One boater said doing CPR was like pushing on a pillow.
Thelma and Louise?
I forgive them, therefore they are forgiven.
I witnessed a young lady jump off Hoover Dam. In fact, I accidentally caught the jump on film. She was about 10’ down at the moment I snapped the picture.
You don’t fall off Hoover Dam. It’s more like bouncing. But it’s pretty thoroughly fatal.
How sad for these girls. Heartbreaking really.
During my daredevil days, I rode a Harley on the side of the Hoover Dam but my passenger fell to his death. It was the end of our “magic show”. SARC/
Especially for the loved ones they left behind.
Suicide, like abortion, is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
There is nothing that cannot be endured or conquered with a whole lot of loving support from a family or pastor.
I work as a school nurse and I am working with a 14 yo with horrible problems.....mostly brought on by stupid parenting....these girls are so fragile....my heart breaks for them.....
Bless you for caring about this teen. They always think that nothing will change and that they aren’t strong enough to endure.
Somehow we have to teach them that they can survive and have a better life.
That life is not a rose garden..........(trite but true)
Permanent solution to a temporary problem
Sad. RIP.
Not if you don’t have support.

If the link works properly, it will give you a song called “Now” by Dave Carroll. Folks I know who are seriously depressed because of health issues find this comforting. Might help someone you care for or about. Good luck and God Bless!
Sans car.
Thank you I am going to be sending this link to my little gal tomorrow.....excellent !!!!!
They are so lucky. I’m green with envy.
