This is the makeshift weekly sci-fi ping. Since I wasn’t able to get the full list of names, I’m just pinging everyone from the usual list who I could see and then everyone who commented on last week’s sci-fi thread or the Stargate Universe thread - so feel free to ping anyone else who’s usually around here who I missed!

Not a regular on this thread, but wondering, has anyone seen "Flash Forward"? Seems like a good show, strange but good.

Sanctuary is the one I’m waiting for. Really want to see what happens after last seasons finale. The fight is on, will be interesting. Haven’t figured out yet who the ‘enemy’ is but have a feeling we’ll be surprised of the interrelationships between the Sanctuary team and the ‘enemy’.

SGU premier was a slow mover to me.

Although Robert Carlyle is an excellent actor his Dr Rush is a pain in the arse and a real drag on my nerves and patience. Again to much Col. Young too (just was a bit uneven for me). Not enough Lou Diamond Phillips, he should be in charge (rather than Young) and with a permanent role.

Was a bit surprised to see Gen Jack O’Neil put on a few pounds.

Col Carter (Amanda Tapping) was great, but then again I think she always is. I can see her in charge of a huge space ship, much more so than Captain Kirk.

Primeval has been picked up for a two-season venue, split 7/6 for a total of 13 episodes.

AMC ANNOUNCES “THE PRISONER” MINI-SERIES PREMIERE SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15 AT 8PM ET/PT

Dollhouse is experiencing low ratings and web chatter is that it will be pulled soon.

Have been watching. It is one of the more interesting ones for the new season. I am wondering, however, since the premonitions/visions were six months in advance how they will sustain after that time has elapsed.

What is Robin Hood?

He is a guy who robbed from the rich and gave to the poor...

Actually, it is a series that has been running on BBC. It finished 3 seasons, so this may be the beginning of the 4th season.

It is a pretty good adventure, escapism program.

It should be. It's awful. I watched two eps and never went back.

Saw a brief interview with Dushku. She said (paraphrase) "Echo's going to get a chance to develop her character and personality."

Huh? How does a character develop when they have no mind of their own?

SGU premier was a slow mover to me.

I watched it. It was too disjointed, without transitions between. It jumped from present to past to personnel conflicts back to present and to past.

I'll watch another week or two and see how it goes.

[I've already dropped a couple of the new network programs.]

Very much so for SGU. It didn’t show any of the flair or watchableness of SG1 or SG Atlantis.

SGU didn’t capture my imagination in the first 10 minutes as the other two did.

I d/l-ed most of Robin Hood and Merlin. They are fun to watch when there isn’t anything else on or I don’t want to watch a deep or serious movie/program.

Read in the Detroit News today about the show, Goyer, said that, “every single mystery that we put on the table will be solved, except, why the flash foward happened.

Guess Goyer did Lost, worked afternoons in the past and missed it.

Something about U of M? Guess he grew up in Ann Arbor.

Are you saying that they are going to make more Primeval episodes or that SyFy is going to air the rest of the episodes that were made and already shown on the BBC? I think that the BBC aired two seasons and pulled the plug.

If Syfy is just saying they are going to air the second season, don’t get your hopes up, it went down hill quickly after the first season.

Assuming that they are using the original story Robin Hood is straight historical fiction not science fiction or fantasy.

I watched both the premiere and the 2nd episode and I like it; although, I must say that they are setting themselves up to have to deliver something major at the end of this season. April 29, 2010. Hope they know how to deliver.

Funny thing about the SGU pilot. The fact that the senator’s noble self-sacrifice was supposed to be heartstring-pulling, considering the current congress’s poll numbers, indicates how long ago the pilot was made.

True. But something told me when he arrived that he wasn’t long for the movie. He just didn’t have the lines or the charisma.

Thanks for the ping. I’m interested in any comments on SGU - I found it confusing, and the fact it was apparently filmed in the DARK with no LIGHTS didn’t help.

Pretty out of character for the Clown Congress to make any sacrifice, let alone the ultimate. I'm always happy to see a politician take a hike, so I liked it.

New The Big Bang Theory on Monday (I think it belongs on the list). Enjoying FlashForward (also belongs on the list). Have mixed feelings about SGU (I really wish they’d drop the annoying Mary Sue characters — do they hire former fanfic writers to write these things?). The new season of Venture Brothers premiers October 18th/19th at Midnight. We’re about a month away from the new V and the new season of Legend of the Seeker.

Yea I’m not sure about the sustainability either, but I do know the book it’s loosely based on went on a little past the 6 month mark.

With that though still seeing only a one season stand.

The FF novel Flashed forward 21 years. However the series is “inspired” by the novel not based on it. I understand there will be substantial differences.

Have you noticed that everytime there is an O’Neill cameo that his voice has changed since he was a regular? He also has lost the evil twinkle and looks a little vacant. I’m a little worried about his health.

I know the two LL’s. My fingers got faster than me and I clicked ‘Post’. Sorry.

I think one L was the movie with Kurt Russell and two L’s was the tv series with Richard Dean Anderson.

Yeah, mention those to KevinDavis, he usually does the list. For some reason when I was checking the TV listings I thought FlashForward was one of those EMT dramas.

Although, during the credits of SGU, I saw that the writers were the ones who had done pretty much all of the previous Stargate franchise, so I have no idea what was going on. I have to say, I don’t like the look of the show, and ironically the thing that bothered me the most was the medic lady’s silly hairstyle. Granted, they took a spaceship there so it wasn’t like she had to carry anything, but WHY would anyone who was sane enough to get into a top-secret program bring SO many hair products to an alien planet?

YES! The series wasn’t that high quality, but it was one of those things I watch when I want something fun and mindless, or I want to watch something with dinosaurs that isn’t Jurassic Park. I was kind of annoyed that...

*SPOILER*

...they left half their characters stuck in the past as a typical end-of-season cliffhanger then the execs were like “sorry, the series is cancelled!”

*END SPOILER*

Well, it’s been extremely heavily implied/shown that when Echo is ‘wiped’ it doesn’t really erase all the memories, it just represses them. So, she’s simultaneously got no mind of her own and the minds of everyone she’s been so far, sort of like she’s got DID with ‘Echo’ being the dominant identity.

One positive about FF. In the 10/08 episode the female FBI agent makes a reference to the White Rose as they visit the aged Nazi. I’m shocked that Hollywood writers exist who would know anything about The White Rose.

Good news for Chuck fans! It's coming back SOON. Likely related to NBC's axing of Southland after deciding the 6 episodes that were already shot were unsuitable for the post-Leno 9PM slot it was given. Both Southland and Chuck were scheduled for Fridays so that either means they'll either move the 8PM show to 9PM and put Chuck at 8PM (my hope) or they'll run Chuck at 9PM on Fridays up against Stargate Universe (which I hope they don't do, though I'll watch Chuck and catch SGU via DVR if they do). The question remains whether Chuck can get decent ratings at 8PM or 9PM on Fridays.
