Welcome To Walmart Wedding...

YORK, Neb. — The bride wore dark lavender, the groom black jeans.

Flowers were everywhere.

The York Walmart Supercenter hosted its first wedding Saturday when Crystal Newsome and Robert “Vick” Vickrey exchanged vows amid hanging baskets and seasonal foliage in the lawn and garden department.

“We had our first kiss at Walmart,” Crystal recalled.

Advertising Robert has been with Walmart for 12 years and is the grocery department manager. With five years behind her at the company, Crystal is the deli manager. Friendship blossomed into romance about two years ago.

Robert has three grown children and four grandchildren. Crystal has four children. Her oldest son, 6-year-old Keagan, walked her down the “aisle,” a white runner. The entire blended family was part of the wedding while Walmart employees gathered with more friends to hear Crystal and Robert exchange their vows.

“We put an invitation up near the time clock for a while,” Crystal said.

She laughed at her co-workers' reactions: “Are you kidding? Why would you want to be here on your day off?”

“We both work here, we met here, it all started here, why not?” Robert said of his Walmart wedding.

They make no secret about why they wanted to become one.

“He's fun,” Crystal said, a touch of laughter in her voice as she talked about Robert. “His personality is wonderful. He can make me laugh when I'm not in the mood to laugh.”

Robert's voice softens when he talks of Crystal.

“I love everything about her. She is an absolutely wonderful woman. She makes me smile. She's put the joy of life back in me.”

I should hope so.

They could just circle stuff in the weekly ads.

Better than a 5/3 wedding. His fifth and her third at a 5/3 bank.

Umm... From the pictures it doesn’t look like a “Dark Lavender” dress on the bride! Perhaps on the bridesmaids, but not the bride herself... (Unless that was a different wedding?)

Anyway, I say good for them. I hope they are very happy together. :)

Did they consumate the wedding in the employee lounge?

He looks like he’s 50 years older than her. . This one won’t last long, whether they get along or not.

I spent a long afternoon stuck in York, NE back in 1986.

Radiator problems.

Recall eating at a very friendly restaurant and checking out cowboy boots in the window of a store there in downtown while I was killing time.

Will never forget it.

Well, they can buy their rings, clothing, get hair did, get an eyeglass precription filled, and the groomsmen can watch the game. What else can you ask for?

Why ever not? I like the idea of weddings that the bride and groom plan themselves, or someone plans for them, but that they will actually ENJOY!!

We got an invitation from my nephew, and his fiancee, and it stated that the wedding was going to be casual, and we could wear our jeans if we liked. Unfortunately, I can't go, but that certainly is a nice thing for the couple to do, make their guests feel comfortable!

This one won’t last long, whether they get along or not.

Why because the groom is older than she? Who knows, he may live to 100, and she could die in 10 years from cancer. We don't know how long we have on this earth, why not enjoy the time we do have, with someone we truly love?

The unspoken question....where was the stag/bachelor party held? Maybe they had a pole dancer over by the lube rack in automotive.

This is great. I wonder if they can just ‘borrow’ those ornaments, fake plants, flowers, lights, chairs, etc., and return them later.

The guy looks like he's into his 70's and according to the article she has 4 kids under the age of 6.(!)

If you really think this poor soul is going to be enjoying his "sunset years" , then you dont really know what its like to have 4 kids under the age of 6.

The story didn't say how old the man is, but most guys who are now over the age of 60 didn't get too involved in the day to day raising of the kids, back in the day, so it's likely he won't with the new batch, either. Their Mama will handle them.

SirKit and I raised 4 kids, though there are 10 years between the oldest and youngest, so I know how busy it can be.

Okay , whatever. They met in a WalMart and he’s only 40 years older than her and she just found someone to help her pay for her 4 kids under the age of 6, and they’re going to live happily ever after, I believe you.

I think this is great. Only in America. May they have many joyful years together, surrounded by sensibly priced household items.
