A man accused of trying to rob a local Taco Bell tried to make a run for the border but ended up in jail, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.
In an email to the Channel 3 Eyewitness Newsroom, Dustin Bell was "caught in the act" because the Taco Bell he selected to rob was also the place a police officer selected for dinner.
Bell is accused of walking into the Highway 58 restaurant, pointing a gun at the clerk and demanding money. He apparently did not see a uniformed Chattanooga police officer eating tacos in a nearby booth. As Bell walked away with cash Officer Miller confronted him. A short foot pursuit ensued but Officer Miller was able to catch Bell within a short distance and take him into custody.
During the arrest, the officer found a .22 caliber pistol and all cash taken in the robbery. Bell was charged with aggravated robbery.
His last name is Bell?
I know. Maybe he thought it was his restaurant.
I just hate these Police brutality stories!! That slacker, jack-booted, agent of the state cop, who had the nerve to sit at a Taco Bell and eat on the tax payers dime deprived this poor soul of a few dollars and confiscated his firearm when the constitution clearly states that he has the right...the right I tell you, of carrying that gun!!
I’m sure the above post has some FReepers yelling, “Damn straight Eagle7, damn straight!!”
Bad timing.
It takes more stones than I have to chase down a man with a pistol and arrest him.
I wonder why the officer didn’t just shoot him?
Classic ...
Dustin Bell
Nice... I look forward to the next classic in 2019... the first remains one of my favorite stories: a 1999 incident in which a 270lb lineman from the University of Kansas was upset that a chalupa was missing from his order and decided to confront the employees... by crawling through the drivethru window (it being 2AM and all)... window breaks, chump gets stuck, arrested. He must have been REALLY hungry if a chalupa meant that much to him ;)
Was the officer’s vehicle unmarked? Or is Mr. Bell even stupider than previously thought?
...and, a la Chris Berman on ESPN, his middle name forever after will always be “Taco”...
The funny part was watching the video later, me, my partner and the clerk all had the same looks on our faces.
We figured he must have been completely stoned but he wasn't. He said he was so scared and determined to commit the robbery that he just got so tunnel vision-ed that even though he saw the patrol car, and us, his brain just didn't process what he was seeing.
I have actually seen worse. When I was an Explorer back in the late 80's I was on a ride-a-long and we went to a call where a guy's hand slipped off the clutch on his motorcycle and drove through a plate glass window of a bank. There were at least 5 police cars, 2 fire trucks and an ambulance parked in front of the bank, inside there were 8 uniformed police officers, 10 fire fighters and the paramedics all standing around when a guy came in and tried to cash 5 pay checks that were stolen from the city fire department's payroll. He told the cashier he was a fire fighter and that his buddies asked him to cash all of their checks for them because "they were on the other side of town fighting a fire and wouldn't get the fire out in time to make it back to the bank before it closed".
I always tell people that the "criminal mastermind" or "diabolical genius" they always portray in movies and on crime TV shows is a complete myth, there is no such thing as a smart criminal.
Dustin 'Taco' Bell.
There are many shelves in Darwin’s bookcase.
Ha, beat me to it. :D
Yo quiero dollar bills.
Should have shot him.
He did have a right to carry the firearm, but not to rob the place. The rest of your post is about as intelligent as this Bell guy.
I knew I would draw at least one of the candidates for the Mayor of Never never Land outta the wood-works. If you had read some of the comments by certain FReepers concerning LEO’s, you would understand my frustration and the reason I posted that.
Like I have said before on here...try living in South L.A. or Bed-stuy Brooklyn then get back to me on how you feel those fine upstanding law abiding citizens should have the right to carry a ‘gat’. (and I am a 2nd Amendment supporter for LAW ABIDING CITIZENS).
“He apparently did not see a uniformed Chattanooga police officer eating tacos in a nearby booth”
Darwin award!
He wasn’t killed or emasculated, so it’s not a Darwin Award - just Teh Stoopid.
How many of those examples are ‘law abiding’ or legally carrying? Probably not that many.
When cops treat citizens with disdain and contempt they should not be surprised when they get the same in return.
“Drop the Chalupa!”
