I’m sure there’s no fraud in this government program. I mean, a Rolls could easily be drivable but worth less that $4500, couldn’t it?

Nobody in his right mind would turn in many of those cars for 4500 bucks. LOL.. Maybe the Taurus and Supras, Impalas...but unless those other cars were totalled to begin with, no way.

The Typhoon and the Buick — maybe.
The rest, I call BS.

Each of those cars was probably turned in by a woman scorned by the owner of a nice care.

Why wouldn`t they put them on E-Bay or Craig`s List? Either this is bull,or there are some cool cars owned by some REALLY STUPID people.

1994 - 96 Impala SS .......just dammmmmmmI was in a Chevy showroom in '95 buying a Lumina Z-34. I drooled over the Impala SS. Sticker price, the then outrageous amount of 28k. The salesman told me they were taking bids on them far above the MSRP.
To: nascarnation
I agree - this smells fishy. I could see one or two guilt-ridden owners destroying an exotic for a “green” ride...but not this many.
There’s an angle here, but I’m not sure what it is.

The Impalas had to be ex-wives. The vettes I could see: the early-80s ones were pretty crappy. Ditto the mid- to late-80s El Caminos. Pity about the Fords, but it’s likely they were the v-8s, not the Yamaha V-6. That 350 must have been junk. I’m surprised not to see any 3000GTs in the list. That thing was a cool-looking car, but the motors were fragile. I wonder what vintage the Supras were.

Heck, if I am the dealer, and someone comes in with a $300,000 Bentley, I am either going to offer him 10 Grand on the spot, or make sure that it is stripped before it goes to the crusher.
This is all so wrong.
For the record, I drive a ‘96 Aerostar 4WD. My wife drives a Caprice Wagon with the 350 V-8. We had no interest in this program.

I wonder how many of those exotic cars were destroyed. Betting not many.
The sapphire blue 2001 Nissan X-Terra was still in pretty fine shape - but, getting only 17 miles or so a gallon, it had Cash for Clunkers written all over it. So in August, Dan Hoang and girlfriend Tara Bui gathered up all the paperwork required by Cash for Clunkers - registration, title, proof of insurance - and went to Volkswagen of Garden Grove to ditch the gas guzzler and replace it with a more environmentally friendly VW Jetta. They wanted the clean diesel Jetta - which would have qualified for the maximum $4,500 credit - but alas, the dealer...

.........or.....some clever dude pulled a switcheroo and THOSE cars were never crushed. Is that possible? Nah! Nobody EVER cheats in a Gubmint program!

The Maserati listed is really a “Chrysler TC by Maserati,” which has found its way onto at least one list of the worst cars of recent times. Basically a K-car.
To: nascarnation
I already figured out a way a dealer could sell a car that was traded under "Cash for Clunkheads" and not get sued.
There were over 60,000 "Cash for Clunkheads" applications rejected by the Feds.
All a dealer would have to do is send in an application for the car, but deliberately leave some fields blank or incomplete.
The application would be rejected, and the dealer can then in good conscience sell the vehicle at market price.

Nope, they crushed a bunch of Maserati Biturbos and a Quattroporte - not just a TC.

The Rolls/Bentley Continental R, assuming you can find one, starts at $50,000.
A non-running or wrecked one is still $40,000.
