What a dumba-s.
He violated a fundamental weapons safety rule: never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot or kill.
In this case, himself.

Witnesses told authorities that Looney would put the guns to his head, ask his girlfriend if she thought the gun would go off, then pull the trigger.
I would make the case he was laying the groundwork to commit suicide, and yet have the cops NOT deem it so, assuring his girfriend can still receive an insurance payout.
Who in the world who is around firearms for more than a day does this????

The safety mechanisms worked for the first two guns. But the third gun fired. Looney died Saturday at a hospital. I suspect mechanical failure was not involved. Most likely, Looney simply forget to place the third weapon in "safe" mode.
Any word on how much alcohol was consumed during this firearms safety training event?

At least these people usually tend to kill themselves off first.

Is this for real?
The shooting happened Friday. Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer told the station that according to witnesses, Looney was demonstrating how to use the different safety mechanisms on several guns. Witnesses told authorities that Looney would put the guns to his head, ask his girlfriend if she thought the gun would go off, then pull the trigger.
The safety mechanisms worked for the first two guns. But the third gun fired. Looney died Saturday at a hospital.

Aww heck. I guess we should just be grateful he didn’t shoot his assistant or a student by “accident”. If I just had my psychology degree I could diagnose this gun-pointing-trigger-pulling disorder. Is it that some guys just don’t know how to suppress their display and dominance drive? It can’t be simple stupidity. Is gun behavior where the line is draw for survivability?

I think it would be more effective than the background checks.

I think laughing at this guy's stupidity is sad given he might have left broken hearted family behind...especially kids and I think FR’s torches and pitchforks usual paraders are mostly poseurs
but testing safety's by holding a loaded gun to one’s head is maybe the craziest thing i have ever seen in my life
guns have always been a part of my life...my kids will inherit several safes full of family pieces...many of which are topnotch long guns, fowlers and small arms and even some black guns.
but sometimes in gun stores the goofy one upsmanship and braggadocio talk gets old
the more black guns the more the tall talk usually

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t the greatest firearms safety lesson. However, I’m sure the girlfriend is now absolutely 100% clear on at least ONE of the basic rules of firearms safety. And hopefully also on one of the basic lessons of life safety: steer clear of moronic drunks who like to play with firearms.
To: wardaddy
I think laughing at this guy's stupidity is sad given he might have left broken hearted family behindHonestly, I'm glad he's dead, because if hadn't killed himself, it was only a matter of time before he killed somebody else. Better that a swaggering pseudo-macho probably-drunk idiot is dead, than some helpless child or a parent who had the misfortune to be near this idiot at the wrong time. When somebody is behaving like this, somebody's going to die, and better it should be the misbehaving jerk than somebody else.
