R.I. GOP's Hispanic Assembly chairman quits party (Over Joe Wilson)

CRANSTON, R.I -- Ivan G. Marte, chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Hispanic Assembly, says he has quit the GOP out of embarrassment at South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst during President Obama's address to Congress last week.

Wilson shouted 'You Lie,' when Obama remarked that illegal immigrants would not receive benefits under his health care plan.

"I do not want to continue being a member of a party in which the members of the party express themselves in that way," said Marte, 59, of Cranston. In a phone interview, he called Wilson's behavior "shameful" and "uncivilized."

But Marte said Wilson's outburst was the last straw in a series of disappointments that led him to break with his party.

Marte became "disenchanted" with Governor Carcieri after the Republican governor sought his advice -- and then ignored it, Marte said -- concerning the 2008 executive order cracking down on illegal immigration. Carcieri's order angered many in the Hispanic community.

Maybe the Republicans should do a better job vetting people before they join the party, to prevent these kind of worthless gestures by pseudo-Republicans.

And remind me, why do we need separate caucuses for each race?

chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Hispanic Assembly

I am Hispanic and I don't understand why the GOP has to have a Hispanic Assembly. Do they ONLY do things for Hispanics? Isn't something like this a sign of the racism that REAL conservatives are trying to get rid of? I want a party that looks out for AMERICANS! Black, Brown, White... I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU ARE! Real Americans need a voice, and not a voice for one specific group.

My experience with "Republican" organizations and campaigns is that they are filled with small-minded people who are jealous of their own power.

If you don't believe me, drop by a local Republican office unannounced, and tell them you "just want to help out."

The FBI isn't as inquisitive of a terror suspect as the little old lady who sits at that front door will be.

Conservative activism works only when it is completely unassociated from Republican organizations.

Which way is that?
The telling the truth way?

In a phone interview, he called Wilson's behavior “shameful” and “uncivilized.” “

Naaaah.
You Mr Marte are the one who should be ashamed, for being a racist, and backing law breakers and liars.

But Marte said Wilson's outburst was the last straw in a series of disappointments that led him to break with his party.”

Don't let the door hit ya on your way out.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. Why do we even let these LaRaza type vermin into the Republican Party anyways?

Marte became “disenchanted” with Governor Carcieri after the Republican governor sought his advice — and then ignored it, Marte said — concerning the 2008 executive order cracking down on illegal immigration”

Now we come to the crux of the matter. This fool wants the laws of this country to be broken at will, by Latino illegal immigrants who continue to rape and plunder this country at will, without fear of consequences. Thanks, but no thanks.

I wish all of these types of Republicans would leave the party. They are an embarrassment. Joe Wilson may have been out of line but he was not wrong and it is brave men and women who choose to stand alone against great evil that change the world for the better. It is easy to be apart of the hoard and serve the beast of Washington. It would’ve been easy for William Tell to bow to the King. It would’ve been easy for the colonists to capitulate to Britain or the world to capitulate the the dominance of Germany and Japan. There are countless examples of heroism in the history the world and while all that Joe Wilson did was stand up and make his voice heard and speak the truth to power. It is when good men will not silenced that evil cowers and those who laugh at the idea that this nation faces a great evil do not know the definition of it. They are being head faked with words like “civilization” and ideas of doing “what is best for everyone”, “helping the poor” and of course the “there are the children”. All the while they want to ignore that the very ideas that are being proposed are diametrically opposed to the ideas of self determinism and liberty that has since its founding made this country unique.

That said I wonder if this Hispanic Assembly man ever rebuked the leftists radicals? Did he call Harry Reid uncivilized when he was rude to President Bush like? I think not. These moderate “Republicans” seem not to notice any of the offenses of the left. Their voices are always strangely absent when 9-11 truther czars are sitting in the White House. They only raise their voices when it comes to striking out at the party they claim allegiance to. They are not moral lights and advocates of reason but cowards who would take pleasure in beating their own momma before fending off her attackers.

I don’t know what made them Republicans but it clearly was not the conservative principles upon which this country was founded.
