Sucks to be out there without a gun.
I just listened to the full report and can attest that Fox are more likely to carry rabies. I remember Grandad dropping one that was hanging out where we played.
This Inuit fellow was lucky

Fortunate that Phillip was strong enough to fight the wolf and kept his wits.

A rabid fox attacked my mom and dad's labrador before sunrise last summer. My 74 year old mom would open the sliding door to the house to let the dog get away & the fox would try to get in. She slammed it on his head once and the dog dragged it back out to protect her. My dad got home and killed it with a STICK! Poor dog had to be quarantined for 6 weeks.
A few weeks later there was another fox in their back yard eating peaches off the lower limbs of a peach tree! If I hadn't seen it myself I wouldn't have believed it.

I dont know why they are predisposed to the disease, but they seem to be.
