Here is video of Somali Pirates firing a "Large Caliber Weapon" at a U.S. Navy Helicopter from the deck of a Taiwanese ship they have been holding hostage since April. More than 30 hostages are being held on board the ship.
Fox News' John Scott talks with a Navy Spokesman for the 5th Fleet about the incident. . . . . (Watch Video)

I see a guy pick up a rifle, fire some rounds, and then it looks like something falls to the deck (maybe a magazine). But as far as being “high caliber” weapon, I’m not so sure.

April?????
You have got to be kidding me. Being an old sailor myself I remember that our chief and primary mission was to keep the sea lanes open. That mission did not stop outside of our territorial waters, it was global.
We need to send a loud and clear message to Somalia, that is the don't crack down on the Pirates that freely operate out of their ports, we will unleash hell on them and add a new verse to the Marine Corps Hymn.
Is this your web site? Every time I go there it is just a youtube video.
Obviously, the helicopter should have returned fire and cut him in half.
In context of the incident, whatever he may have been firing does not meet my understanding of a large caliber weapon.
Remember, to the media anything bigger than a .22 rimfire IS a “large caliber weapon”.
Drop warning leaflets on every Somali village that has boats on the beach.
Followed up an hour later with cluster bombs.

There’s no point in putting Navy men and women in danger unless they can shoot back.
The "victims," of course, being the pirates.
Trust me,.....If it’s my ass being shot at, a .22 is good enough for me to cut them in half. I don’t want to be shot at with anything. Remember, an AR-15 is a .223. It does a little damage.
Roger that - is why I said "rimfire"
