I own the domain conservativereports.com and I have toyed around with different ideas for it, but I think a good use for it would be to build a website which features video and articles of what Canadian and British politicians said about their healthcare plans before they were enacted and as they were being vetted. Then, side-by-side with those clips and articles, have stories and videos which show the true results of those plans in action. I would wager that the talking points on the "the opposition is lying" quotes are all there for everyone to see. Showing the people the pitch and the results would certainly clarify this issue.
I will build the site, but I need help in pulling together the content, videos, etc. We would want to start with Canada and Great Britain as I think it holds the most relevance for our citizens, but if you have items which you think are relevant, add them to the thread.
Anyone who would like to help with the site, please freepmail me. Trying to build this on top of my current workload is a lot, so any help would be welcome.
So, please help me put this together.
I’m not sure there are many honest videos up about British and Canadian health care.
Subtitle it ‘The Big Lie’!
Good luck!
Wow
I have some experience with web sites and may be of help. What can I help you with, please?
You want it to ficus on a single subject? Or will that be expanded later to include others? Like CapNTrade and CardCheck?
A lot of FReepers write their own stuff, some of them have blogs but some do not. JohnHuang2 writes funny stuff on an almost weekly basis but I don’t know if he parks them anywhere but here.
I had an idea a long time ago about a FReeper News site but nothing came of it except some stupid animated gifs I did.
Good luck with the site!
Was there much opposition to the UK or Canadian health care systems? Those countries went pretty bad left after WW2.
The Fraser Institute, a Conservative think tank, has produced the definitive series of studies on Canadas health care system. Anyone interested in knowing the facts, should read their reports. You can access them on line here:
http://www.fraserinstitute.org/researchandpublications/researchtopics/health.htm
Freepers will likely enjoy this one, for the Reaganesque title alone.

It busts a lot of health-care myths. Theres plenty of ammo there, to shoot down any Obamabot talking points.
It’s going to take a lot of effort I think to track this stuff down, but I’m sure that the british media has tons of video on comments lawmakers made when they were enacted their NHS framework - or just as it was running. Then, counter that with the real experiences.
The left always wants to show the heartfelt stories of people who lost everything from an illness. Your heart goes out to those people and you make really bad decisions worse because you’re thinking with your heart. It’s time for an opposite view. The people who die because they can’t get an ambulance (read that the other day) or the Alzheimer’s patients who can’t get care because they claim it’s a “social” disorder and not a “health” disorder.
In canada there are waiting lists for MRIs, CT Scans, and common procedures that we get with every stop at the ER. I was in a car accident which cut my elbow, went to the ER to get stitches and they ran scans top to bottom to make sure I didn’t hurt anything else. Overkill? probably, but I’d rather have overkill than just plain old kill - as in let you die because they didn’t want to spend the money to run a CT Scan.
The government should be trying to help these businesses which improve technology. Create conditions where it’s cheaper to build and operate the machines. Maybe Obama can talk to his buddies as GE and get them to not make so much money off their medical equipment. Or better yet, let them write off taxes on improvements for the first 5 years. Who knows, lots of ways to incent cheaper - BETTER - care. The current ideas are to reign in costs by rationing care, by limiting care.
Those heart felt stories where people lose everything or die because they don’t have insurance. Those are terrible stories and the people who live around these people should pull together and help them. That’s the whole idea of America. The people do what needs to be done. Not the Government because when government does it - it ALWAYS makes things worse.
Shew...sorry for rant. I’m on a roll today.
GREAT! Keep ‘em coming!
I’ll be compiling a list of people who offer and once I get the architecture set down, I’ll turn everyone who has volunteered with available tasks. Thanks for the offer.
You must be a right wing extremist, racist, homophobic, gun toting, Bible carrying, bigoted, misogynist, who like dirty air and dirty water........................
The idea is to frame results with intentions. To show people what those pitching a plan say will happen with what actually happens. I do have some ideas for expanding it out. For instance, I would like to do a “Mystery Theatre 3000”-like section which just replays the major news networks news with commentary - pointing out the bias and the making fun of how stupid they think the people are. Could be entertaining and poignant.
So, yes, we’ll expand it, but healthcare is perfect jumping off point because it has been tried in at least 12 variations and it has failed each time.
Lots of us FReep on the go now, and it's nice when arguing with a lib, to be able to bring up reference material on the iPhone (or your smartphone of choice).
Remember it was not too long ago that California voted on a single-payer healthcare system. It failed pretty badly I think. Obama must have forgotten about that.
At least the wait for maternity care is only 10 months.
One way or the other!
I’ve built several iPhone apps over the last six months. It’s an interesting idea. Not too difficult. I’ll try to make it happen!
To those who have or know people who have pinglists, please ask them to forward this thread out. I’m planning to use this weekend to get a lot of this put together and the freepers we can get to help with the content and even the development, the better. I don’t want it to be one of those “donate” sites. It obviously costs money to build and run these things, but I can should that for now. I just need “boots on the ground” to whip up the content.
BTW, I’ve already had several Freep mails from developers and designers willing to help. So, thanks to all of them. Keep them coming. We’ll get a top-notch team put together. Maybe the first in history to be all conservative. :)

Darn, links didn’t work. Oh well, one of those days.
Society becomes more wholesome, more serene, and spiritually healthier, if it knows that its citizens have at the back of the consciousness the knowledge that not only themselves, but all their fellows, have access, when ill, to the best that medical skill can provide. -

Would love to see a “Got Questions?” Section... One that directs readers to most frequently asked questions, and even questions not thought of. The answers could be well sourced answers. You could have a team of individuals organized to answer unique questions via research with sourced answers. Got the idea from gotquestions.org.
Excellent. This is great. Now if we can dig up some members of Parliament talking about how a lack of beds will never cause harm, etc.

“Report Says Fly Larvae Grew in Comatose Patients at Hospital Infested With Mice, Flies”
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/652699/posts
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Maggots were born in the noses of two comatose patients four years ago at a city Veteran’s Administration hospital infested by mice and flies, according to a medical journal report released Monday. The story in the Archives of Internal Medicine details the 1998 infestation. It said mice would sometimes dash over the feet of employees in the hospital director’s suite.
Hospital officials said the hospital no longer has any cleanliness problems. Barbara Shatto, the hospital’s quality manager, said the hospital scored 99 out of 100 when it was inspected by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations in October.”We learned from that incident and took action to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” said Pat Landon, the hospital’s director of facilities.
The infestation started with a housecleaning oversight, according to the article. Dr. Stephen Klotz, then the hospital’s chief of infectious disease, said the mice moved in after the cafeteria and food storage areas were dropped from a cleaning list. Some areas weren’t cleaned for at least a year, according to the article.
By July 1998, a pest control contractor put out bait and glue boards to kill the mice. Inspectors later found dead mice in food storage rooms, mouse nests behind boxes on food shelves, and mouse droppings on the floor of a cafeteria work room. Live mice were found in a large wastebasket.
Cleaners missed some of the dead mice, which attracted flies. Green blowflies like to lay their eggs in dead mice. Electronic fly-control devices were installed, and pest-control workers began using live traps for the mice. Some of the flies flew into the hospital’s intensive-care unit, where they were trapped by automatic doors and kept away from mouse carcasses.
Maggots were found in the nostrils of one patient on July 22, 1998, the article said. Maggots were found in the nose of a second patient on Sept. 30, 1998. Klotz said the maggots were removed immediately and that neither patient was harmed by the infestation. The first patient died two days after the maggots were found but the cause of death was unrelated.
“They’re ghastly,” her said, “but they’re harmless.” Klotz said he found a few other examples where flies laid eggs in patients at other hospitals
Kim,
Sounds like you have put some thought into this. Maybe we’ll create a section for FAQs and break it down by topic, etc. Make it a reference materials type of deal. With the questions, the answers, and the supporting materials.
If you have the time (and it appears you have some of these articles bookmarked) maybe we can set you up with access to a DB and you can start creating the questions, then we can put it out to everyone to start plugging in answers.
I’m going off line for a little while to get some work going on this, so I’m not going to respond to everyone right away. To those that are on the thread, please keep posting ideas and we’ll make this our little library. If you have questions, you can freepmail me or post here too. and please try to bump this up every once in a while so that those who have been at work will see the post. Also anyone who knows some of the bigger posters who may have a lot of info, please alert them. Together we can make this an excellent resource.

No longer will wealth be an advantage nor poverty a disadvantage. Healthcare will be provided free of charge based on clinical need and not on ability to pay. -

I just rememebered that article because it infuriated me when it came out.. I had to google for the articles. It happened to come up during a conversation with friends yesterday re:the vet’s choice of life or death threads on FR. Laz would be a great resource, I on the other hand prefer researching over db management. (Because of previous ventures) you have an excellent idea going, I appreciate it very much.
I’m into .NET (C#, 3.5), Linq2SQL, ASP.NET with heavy javascripting as required, AJAX obviously. Steering away from Silverlight, but do have my WPF and WCF together. I’m about a step away from a DBA too (SQL2005).
But thanks for the effort.
You are amazing!!! LoL tuff stuff..my brothers getting certified for microsoft and programming. He had the mind for it, we all knew he would. I fell asleep during programming class in highschool. He thrived on it. :-p
That is within the last few days....
I don't know, but if a diagnosis of appendicitis isn't enough to get even emergency treatment under Britain's NHS, I doubt that cancer is going to excite much more interest under Obamacare:

ROFL!
The Doctor’s first question...is to ask about the cause of the condition....!!!
Nah....Really?
I am rilly rilly good at computers.
For rill.
I know nothing about building web sites, and I respect those who do. But as a consumer of web sites, I know that I HATE flash ads and popups and won’t be back if there are any. I don’t like to read my morning paper or books with blinking lights; likewise I don’t want lights and animations on a web page. Just for what it’s worth. Good luck!
