GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A man was arrested and charged with attacking his own daughter with a piece of pizza. Deputies say the 38-year-old father got into an argument with his daughter in Gainesville Friday. The man had asked his daughter to get off her computer. When she would not, he began verbally attacking her, according to deputies.
The daughter called 911 when her father threw a piece of pizza that hit her in the back of the neck. The suspect was arrested and charged with felony child abuse. Deputies are not releasing the girl's age or the names of either person involved.

If it had those little minnows on it, I don’t blame him for throwing it at her. Having said that, you’ve got to be careful with those sharp edges on a piece of pizza.

Silly (read stupid) father. Daughter won’t get off computer? Yank computer power cord and cut into 6 inch segments using kitchen shears. Problem solved with no yelling, no harsh words and no point to further argument.

Obviously we need a 10 day waiting period before the purchase of any pizza.

This sounds more like a food fight than felony child abuse.
To: greatdefender
This is so wrong on so many levels!...
That the daughter would consider getting hit with a piece of pizza an assault.
That she would call 911 over it.
That 911 would respond.
That police would consider getting hit with a piece of pizza an assault.
That police would arrest this guy.
That police would charge him with felony child abuse.
Our society is no longer going to hell...it has arrived.

Will need much more info to make a clear determination. Deep dish or thin crust? Hand tossed (I mean prior to the incident of course) or pre-fab? Delivery or DiGiorno’s? Meat Lover or Supreme? Chicago or New York?

As soon as dad is out of jail, he should stop paying for her Internet,... Unless the girl is nearing 18, if dad is convicted, about all he'll see of his daughter will be supervised visits. 'Course of her mother takes a dim view of her actions and does something equally criminal (i.e., flicks her with a towel or such), the girl may end up filing complaints about her new foster folks.

You were lucky; my parents, in keeping with their Asian heritage, used bamboo whips (thin cuttings from bamboo stalks) and hot water. Generally, all it took was one “treatment” and I was on the straight and narrow for a long time.

No pizza sold at public venues ( fairgrounds, ballparks, etc) as this is too reminiscent of gun sales at gun shows. I mean, just ANYONE could purchase a pizza and the threat to our society is just too great!
Next thing you know we will have pizza gangs!

I was lucky. My dad would put a belt to me if I was 5 minutes late for supper or getting in trouble at school. My dad would also teach me the ways of the world. He provided a world of fun with boating, wildlife, travel, and history. Disrespect of elders was not a part of my childhood.

I would relish the belt after a couple love taps with a stainless spatula.. My Mom knew how to swing it and she was cutting air the whole time.
The "THING" could "SING" before it connected, you knew it was on it's way!!!!

Mom’s big spatula hurt but Dad’s dis-approval and belt hurt worse. (I am a young man after all)!

You’re right of course. At least this daddy TRIED to get his daughter off the computer and keep her from becoming a complete screen veggie. Lots of parents are just happy to keep the kids occupied “safely at home”. It is terrible how many hours many kids log per day online.
After a couple more hours I’m getting off this thing.

The deputies need an ass kicking for this nonsense.
It sounds like this county has some people to cut from their expense line if they have the time to harass a father punishing a defiant kid.

The politics of Gainesville and Alachua County are dominated by the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Florida. I’m in the next county and some of our legislative and Congressional districts are infiltrated by these cretins.
