With more than $300 million in production and marketing spending on the line for the opening of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" on Friday, Paramount has a message for critics: Go see the movie with everyone else.

A spokesperson for the studio confirmed that there would be no screenings for reviewers at print and broadcast media outlets, meaning if they want to see the film, they will have to go Friday along with regular moviegoers.

Guess they don’t want bad critiques to turn off film goers.

When a film maker is scared to show a movie to the critics, it is usually a signal that the movie is a turd.

The director has already turned me against it. **Soup Nazi voice** No $10 for you!

Paramount sunk a TON of money into this movie. They don’t want screeners out before the release, as they tend to get released on Hulu and on BitTorrent sites.

This is brilliant, if you ask me.

“Go see it with the rest of the public.”

I’m betting it’s Pro-American... something the MSM likes to lambaste in today’s movies.

From what most here say about this movie, sounds like good marketing. Let the people that actually want to see the movie make the decision instead of someone that gets paid to see it. I know I always like to make up my own mind about movies, as lots of critics and I see things differently about movies we’ve seen.

This is the kiss of death. The last big summer movie that tried to avoid bad press this way was “Snakes on a Plane.”

that means it probably stinks on ice. I thought it did my own self the minute I heard it was changed to be a UN team instead of an American one.

I’ll just go see inglorious bastards and watch them kill Nazis.

I’m with rarestia on this one. The movie’s rah-rah patriotic and they don’t want it to be savaged by the usual PC, Amerikka-hating reviewers.

Paramount HAS shown it to an assortment of Fanboy internet reviewers AND shown it to a military audience at Andrews AFB.

Those audiences liked it and are setting the internet abuzz with word-of-mouth.

Sounds clever, if you ask me.

Not at all. Paramount knows nothing good will come from leftist movie reviews of a pro-patriotic, pro-American, God, guns, and apple pie movie, so they are going to let the public decide whether or not the movie reviews are positive or negative. To let your enemy test your product and cut the legs out from under you before you start selling it, isn't smart business. More power to Paramount, I say.

I don’t think that’s the reason at all.

I’m betting it’s Pro-American...

It's not. It's the opposite. G.I. in this movie doesn't stand for Gov't issue. It stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity. They didn't want to pander to Americans because they make more money overseas and it's a tough sell to Euroweenies and mooslimbs everywhere.

It’s not pro-American. The director and the liberal hacks who wrote it decided at the idea stage that GI Joe would NOT be a “Real American Hero” as we all remember from our youth. They changed the name to an acronym for Global Integrated Joint Operations Entity, a name that’s meaningless other than the fact that GI Joe is now a “global” force that reports to the UN and not our government. I believe they apologize to Cobra Commander for oppressing him somewhere in the story.

Interviews with the director and script leaks would indicated the exact opposite.
