GAME O-VER? ALL-TIME RATINGS LOW FOR OPRAH
New York Post ^ | July 17, 2009 | MICHAEL STARR

MEMO to Oprah Winfrey: Your slip is showing.

TV's reigning queen is losing viewers at a rate that hasn't been seen since "The Oprah Winfrey Show" was launched 23 years ago.

Winfrey's ratings for the July 4th week, released yesterday, were her lowest since 1983 -- the latest in an alarming slide that's been going on for the last five years.

The ratings for "Oprah" since 2004 are down by nearly a third, 32 percent, records show.

So, is TV's biggest star losing her legendary mojo?

"There's the fatigue factor," says industry analyst Marc Berman of Mediaweek. "Oprah's been on the air for over two decades.

America’s easy credit fantasy life is also imploding at the same time, and she was an exemplar of the something for nothing wish it all crowd.

True, but she had a heck of a run. I’m not an Oprah fan. She extended her show substantially by going away from the Jerry Springer fad.

Oprah starting losing it when she started to embrace strange religions. A lot of her audience is getting turned off by her anti-Christian tilt.

It can be one of two things. Since people were forced either to get that box for digital TV many just decided to go for basic cable. So now all those old ladies are watching Fox News instead of Oprah-—or maybe Turner Classics.

To add to her decline — there should be a BOYCOTT of all her advertisers.

Oprah's worth over $3 billion and she's been on for 23 years. The market being composed of vacuous women is the problem.

She should read the writing on the wall and retire. Billions of dollars and a quarter century later, she’ll never be anything but a major success. She can retire with the most successful show in history so far.

Yup, a third of her viewers realize what a mistake she made in anointing Obama.

Ditto - as far as I’m concerned, she went South when she started pushing the Hollywood agenda in the culture wars. She still gets the slobberers for her show so still nauseating. It was such a trip to watch her episodes on un-wed mothers or teens being used by guys when HER lifestyle doesn’t really set the example. Another thing Oprah-related - her “best friend” Gayle lives in Conn and I saw a piece that says she has a “women’s group” and walks up to BLACK women in town to ask them to join...hmmmmm...discrimination on a major scale??????

I used to enjoy watching some of Oprah’s shows....not since she endorsed Obama...and started showing her racism....if you watch a show now...she glorifies those of her color. I used to think she was a fair woman.... insiders I hear, say that she’s a very difficult person.

Other have speculated that Oprah is seeing an "Obama Backlash" -- a reaction against her public endorsement of Barack Obama's presidential run and her active campaigning for him.

serves her right

Fatigue factor, my happy-white-one. (Trying to swear off using bad words.) When she gushed over Obama and Michelle, I think that’s when she lost a huge number of fans. I don’t think Oprah is racist, but fawning all over Obama made it appear that she was. Kind of like Colin Powell’s endorsement of BHO. I was never a fan of Oprah nor her self-made religion, so I’m glad this is happening, and I hope it continues.

In addition to the Obama backlash and the strange religions, Oprah has had some weird shows this past season that has had more than a few viewers squirming in their seats. The pregnant bearded lady who claims she’s the first man to have a baby, clergy calling homosexuality a blessing from God, etc. She has truly jumped the shark.
