WORLD EXCLUSIVE: NASA FINDS MISSING MOON LANDING TAPES
Daily Express (UK) ^ | Sunday June 28 2009 | Ted Jeory

Posted on 07/09/2009 10:44:21 PM PDT by Rodamala

ECSTATIC space officials at Nasa could be about to unveil one of their most stunning discoveries for 40 years — new and amazingly clear footage of the first moon landing.

The release of the new images next month could be one of the most talked about events of the summer.

The television images the world has been used to seeing of the historic moment when Neil Armstrong descended down a ladder onto the moon’s surface in 1969 is grainy, blurry and dark.

The following scenes, in which the astronauts move around the lunar lander, are so murky it is difficult to make out exactly what is going on, causing conspiracy theorists to claim the entire Apollo 11 mission was an elaborate fraud.

However, viewers have only ever seen such poor quality footage because the original analogue tapes containing the pictures beamed direct from the lunar surface were lost almost as soon as they were recorded.

Instead, a poor quality copy made from a 16mm camera pointing at a heavily compressed image on a black and white TV screen has been the only record of the event.

"The Sunday Express can now reveal that the missing tapes containing the original high quality images have been found."

Maybe we need to get Ted Jeory to find BHO's birth certificate?

“the pictures beamed direct from the lunar surface were lost almost as soon as they were recorded.”

And we’re to believe that really happened— NASA lost the tapes? I just can’t believe that.

And we liked it that way!

Personally, I think this is much ado about nothing. The broadcast images were of poor quality, and I don't believe there are any "high quality" images, just more perfect records of the original poor quality images.

There was a big improvement in image quality in later missions, but this was its whole own story. Some start-up company approached NASA with their image processing technology, and NASA bought it, and it was good.

Stuff like walking on the moon for the first time is just routine stuff, like any other day. NASA probably just had some intern kid in charge of the video footage.

Whatev.... I was asked to put this in it’s own thread when I linked to the article elsewhere. I tried to see if it was posted on FR already, but didn’t see it.

" And we’re to believe that really happened— NASA lost the tapes? I just can’t believe that. " ......

This would be called one of those yes ? or no ? answers .

Yes, it could have been some were for 40 years by a few people's knowledge considering the significance of this historical event.....

But ? no.... consider it's government issued .... when government get's it's hands on anything, anything is bound to get messed up.

NASA cleaned up all the alien artifacts first. /sarc

So, were these Apollo films hidden in a musty fiber box under James Angleton's old desk?

Think the article says the main tapes were in Australia, but somehow they ended up in a closet or something for 40 years.

NASA goes to precise details for the moon landing, hundreds of engineers and years of preparation, millions of dollars spent....and somehow they don’t give instructions to Australia on what to do with the tapes??

No, I just don’t buy it.

"No, I just don’t buy it."

If you had ever spent anytime working for a large, government bureaucracy, believe me, you'd believe it.

It's for that reason alone, I refuse to believe a single, government-themed conspiracy.

Here's a link to an article I posted a few hours ago about the project to restore moon imgages tranmitted to Earth by the Lunar Orbiters sent by NASA in the 1960's

I have no trouble believing a giant US government bureaucracy, aided by a giant Australian government bureaucracy, could lose these tapes. But I’m quite sure this won’t “lay the conspiracy theories to rest” as the NASA officials seem to imagine. People believe in conspiracy theories because they want to, not because the available evidence supports the theory. This long-delayed appearance of the clearer original images will just be added to the conspiracy theorists’ arsenal, with claims that the resurfacing of the tapes after 40 years is implausible, this is just how long it took NASA to cook up good fakes, since they had to wait for technology to improve, yadda, yadda.

Nice images thanks for the link. I love getting to see history like this. The photos give the moon new and richer look. It is stuff like this when that makes one say “I am an American and Proud of it!!!”. I hope the they are able to get the video footage ready in time for the 40th anniversary.

America can do great things we just got to forget about all the fringe stuff that left is going on about get it together, focus like a laser, and just do it.

They weren’t lost for 40 years, it’s just that the tape guys just got back from their smoke break after 40 years.... things don’t happen too fast down this part of the world ;-)

There's a great Australian semi-fictional, semi-factual movie called The Dish from a few years ago that tells the story of what happened at the Australian radio telescopes used during Apollo XI.

That's bulls**t. You just bulls**tted NASA!

*****

Reporter: No offense, but NASA spends fifteen years, hundreds of millions of dollars so that we can watch man walk on the moon and in the end it falls to you blokes! I mean, how do you feel about that?
Ross "Mitch" Mitchell: A lot better before you opened your trap!

*****

Mayor Bob McIntyre: You've just got to tell them.
Cliff Buxton: That we lost Apollo 11?
Mayor Bob McIntyre: Well, I wouldn't say that first.
Cliff Buxton: What would you say first?
Mayor Bob McIntyre: How about "hey, you'll never guess what happened...”

*****

Janine Kellerman: You have a gun!
Rudi Kellerman: Yep. Official NASA requirement, armed security.
Janine Kellerman: Does mum know?
Rudi Kellerman: No. And don't you tell her, either! She might come up here and take it off me or something.

*****

Al Burnett: Not everyone at NASA is a hotshot college genius. The guy I most admire is from a one-horse town in Ohio.
Ross 'Mitch' Mitchell: And what's he do?
Al Burnett: Tomorrow he's gonna walk on the moon.
