Attempted Ford assassin: Free after 32 years in prison, Sara Jane Moore says she was ‘mistaken’
msnbc ^ | May 28, 2009 | Gerald DeMarco

Posted on 05/28/2009 9:32:38 AM PDT by JoeProBono

Free after 32 years in prison, Sara Jane Moore says she was wrong, “misled” and “mistaken” in trying to assassinate President Gerald R. Ford in September 1975. However, she added: “I still believe if I hadn’t done it, someone else would.” “It was a time people don't remember. We had a war in this country, the Vietnam War,” Moore told Matt Lauer in an exclusive interview on TODAY Thursday.

“This is going to sound a little strange, but I really thought that it would trigger a new revolution. We were saying the country needed to change, the only way it was going to change was a violent revolution. I genuinely thought that this might trigger that new revolution in this country.”

“She was a product of those times in a not very successful fashion,” said NBC News’ Tom Brokaw.

Yeah, she got caught. The successful ones are Obama neighbors who still reminisce about killing people back in the good old days.

Why does her semi-justification sound like something straight out of Code Pink? And why is it these nuts only feel this obligation towards Republicans. Why was LBJ never “targeted” quite as pointedly? Why was George Bush hammered, yet Obama follows his nearly identical policies and the hard left is silent? Could it be that liberals always find some excuse to slip into radicalism as a means to wrestle away power?

You asked — why is she even free?

Well, she actually answered that for you, in the article... LOL...

As for those who say she should never have been released, Moore says: “We have a Constitution and we have laws. Regardless of who you are, there were conditions to be met for me to be paroled, and I met those conditions.

“If people object to that, write your congressman and ask that your law be changed.”

And, actually, I would have to agree with anyone who said that. It sounds fairly accurate to me...

You took the wind out of my sails, JoeProbono.

There are still a few of us who know that the Vietnam war was winding down when Nixon was still in the White House. The war was over when Gerald Ford became President.

Did Mr.Lauer not know these facts? Nobody does any research over there at NBC? This is pretty basic stuff.

It was rhetorical. I do think that if one attempts to assasinate
a US president that life in prison without parole is a good idea.
Although, they could still be pardoned. I know that Sirhan Sirhan
is always up for parole but can’t quite convince the board to
let him go.

“I still believe if I hadn’t done it, someone else would.”

She sounds SO remorseful, while explaining how moany other people agree with what she did.

“It was a time people don’t remember. We had a war in this country, the Vietnam War,”

Uh huh,,Ok, got it. April 30, 1975, Saigon fell completely. American troops had been absent for 2 years. After the April 75 fall, NO Americans whatsoever were there. She shot at Ford in Sept of 1975.

Just because someone looks like a grandma doent mean anything. They might have been an evil SOB 40 or 50 years before. Don’t be hoodwinked.

Squeaky Fromme also attempted to assassinate President Ford, so I suppose the belief is confirmed.

It was a time she apparently doesn't remember, either, if she thinks the U.S. was still fighting the Vietnam War in 1975.

Well...let's see.

In order for her to spout her victimhood, she'll be on larry "brain dead" king, oprah "I've got mine, sucka" win-free, and two Sunday morning talk shows no doubt interviewed by our gal katie "duuuhhh" couric.

After that, she'll be invited to the "white" house, given the medal of freedom by barry for her personal statement against the republican conservatives, then it'll be off to capitol hill where she'll address the congress about how all the slimy repubs were biased against her kind all along.

Then, she be given a "free" GM car, a "free" house, "free" living expenses (all of course from your and my tax dollars) and a book deal with the up front fee of $2.99MM paid to her in cash as part of the "new victims bailout" fund established by our terriffically beautiful "first" "lady" michelle "movin' on up" obammer!

That confuses me? I know that he killed RFK and all but what other murder has served as long as he has? Is it because it was a Kennedy he assinated unlike Moore? RFK wasn’t President either? Not that I’m a great avocate of letting murders go but it does make me wonder why when he’s been in jail since 1969?

Back in the days when Bill Maher was funny, he did a bit about Sirhan Sirhan who, at the time, was saying he was sure Bobby Kennedy himself would be in favor of his pardon. “Damn, the only person who would advocate for your release...and you killed him.”

There were no U.S. troops in the Vietnam War when she attempted to assasinate President Ford. Was she doing so many drugs she missed the part about our troops being withdrawn from there?? The Vietnam War was over in 1975, and we were no longer involved before that- by a couple of years. I think our last 50 Marines came home in 1973 and the major withdrawl of U.S. troops took place before that. I can't believe she was allowed to claim this as any part of her reason!! Of course Ayers also claims the Vietnam War as an excuse for the violence of the Weatherman and that took place in the 1970s also.

This is going to sound a little strange, but I really thought that it would trigger a new revolution. We were saying the country needed to change, the only way it was going to change was a violent revolution. I genuinely thought that this might trigger that new revolution in this country.

Not only does it sound strange- but she is making excuses for her actions- not accepting personal responsiblity, no way is this remorse- I can't believe she was released when she still feels like this was a good reason. So if she becomes unhappy now with the way things are going- does she believe it would be ok to assasinate the President to bring about change?? Give me a break, she needed to stay locked up.

Sara Jane Moore says she was...“misled”....

I note that Ms. Moore is not quoted in the article as to who exactly "misled" her. I wonder if Walter Crankite and Dan Blather had anything to do with it? She is typical of so many cretins who dwell under the fat part of the bell curve-- just another political slug à la President Zero's good friend Ayers.

John Diehl.
He was Private Cruiser in “Stripes” ( as well as Det. Zitto in “Miami Vice”).

If you’ve seen the movie (1981), the recruits are sitting around the barracks explaining why they joined the Army.

Private Cruiser says, “I figured I’d better join before I got drafted.”

Sgt Hulka (Warren Oates, looking disgusted) says, “There ain’t no draft no more, son.”

Private Cruiser, looking a little confused and dejected, says, “There was one?”

From the AP version:

“”Sara Jane Moore told NBC’s “Today” that she now realizes that her actions, stemming from her involvement in radical politics, were “wrong ... a serious error.”

It was during the long years in prison, she said, that “gradually I began to realize that I had let myself be used. ... I definitely think that it was wrong. I think I was misled. I think I was mistaken. I think I made a serious error.”””

I wonder why the quote was not allowed to continue into identifying those who by whom she felt she was being used?

Tinfoil hat...stowed.

Matt Lauer is either too stupid to think of it or too fearful of the obvious answer for such an inquiry. I vote for the latter. Whatever, most viewers of biased pap like Today are incapable of making fine distinctions on these matters.

Change is coming you stupid communist bitch. Ironic, it may take a violent revolution to preserve the republican form of democracy as we have always enjoyed it. I know it has long been a crime to advocate the overthrow of our [republican] government; but is it now a crime to advocate preserving it?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sara_Jane_Moore
“Moore had married and divorced five times and had four children before she turned to revolutionary politics in 1975.”

Moore was grabbed by bystander Oliver Sipple as she fired. Sipple’s life was then ruined by his friend Harvey Milk:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Sipple
“”The police and the Secret Service immediately commended Sipple for his action at the scene, while Ford thanked him in a letter. The news media portrayed Sipple as a hero but would eventually report on his outing by Harvey Milk and other San-Francisco gay activists.[3] Though he was known to be gay by various fellow members of the gay community, Sipple had not made this public, and his sexual orientation was a secret from his family. He asked the press to keep his sexuality off the record, making it clear that neither his mother nor his employer had knowledge of his orientation; however, his request was not complied with. The national spotlight was on him immediately, and Milk responded. While discussing whether the truth about Sipple’s sexuality should be disclosed, Milk told a friend: “It’s too good an opportunity. For once we can show that gays do heroic things, not just all that ca-ca about molesting children and hanging out in bathrooms.”[4] Milk contacted the newspaper.[1]

Several days later Herb Caen, a columnist at The San Francisco Chronicle, exposed Sipple as a gay man and a friend of Milk. Sipple was besieged by reporters, as was his family. His mother, a staunch Baptist in Detroit, refused to speak to him. Although he had been involved with the gay community for years, even participating in Gay Pride events, Sipple sued the Chronicle for invasion of privacy.[2] President Ford sent Sipple a note of thanks for saving his life. Milk said that Sipple’s sexual orientation was the reason he received only a note, rather than an invitation to the White House.[1]

Sipple filed a $15 million invasion of privacy suit against Caen, seven named newspapers, and a number of unnamed publishers, for publishing the disclosures. The Superior Court in San Francisco dismissed the suit, and Sipple continued his legal battle until May 1984, when a state court of appeals held that Sipple had indeed become news, and that his sexual orientation was part of the story.[1]””

Average length of time actually served in US prisons for murder varies by state. In this study 12 to 19 years.

http://search.cga.state.ct.us/dtsearch_lpa.asp?cmd=getdoc&DocId=13604&Index=I%3A%5Czindex%5C1994&HitCount=0&hits=&hc=0&req=&Item=1497

In any case, a lot less than a true life sentence.
