A Pennsylvania woman who called 911 to report that she and her daughter had been abducted was charged with making a false report and identity theft after police found the pair at a Disney resort in Florida, authorities said Wednesday. Bonnie Sweeten, 38, told authorities Tuesday afternoon that she and 9-year-old Julia Rakoczy were kidnapped after two men in a Cadillac rear-ended her sport-utility vehicle in Upper Southampton, north of Philadelphia. They were being held in the trunk of the Cadillac, she claimed. Sweeten was arrested late Wednesday at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort in Orlando, Florida, said Michelle Henry, district attorney for Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Sweeten awaits extradition proceedings. Asked what tipped off investigators, Henry said, "It was a combination of different facts that just didn't add up." Sweeten's daughter is in state custody until her biological father picks her up, Henry said.

I figured it was fake when she was able to get a cell phone signal while locked in a trunk.

I want a cellphone that will work inside a metal box!

I’ve used a cellphone inside a metal elevator and only lost the connection every other trip.

This is a shame. This mom has royally screwed up. But I sympathize with her.

The divorce system pits parents against each other, instead of giving equal time to both.

obtained a driver's license from a co-worker to buy airline tickets to Florida. The mother and daughter traveled under false names. . . .

When I heard this story on the radio I threw the BS flag. It was too goofy to be real.

There was a recent Florida case where a woman did call 911 from inside the trunk of a car after being shoved in there by her abusive ex boyfriend, but there wasn't a whole lot of info she could give the 9/11 operator about where the car was when she called or where it was headed.

That story has been on the air a lot locally so when this new woman resurrects the same story the cops probably knew right away to look for her in Florida.

Well, at least the child is safe. But I wonder why the mom had to go through the fakery to take her kid to Disney? Did the Step-Dad not want her to go? Did the real Dad say no? If so, why?

So many questions. Hope we find out soon. I never like the mis-named "Friend-of-the-Court". Talk about a real den of crooks, liars and thieves.

There are abducted persons who call from within car trunks.

Sometimes the people are saved (like if the driver eventually abandons the vehicle) and sometimes they are murdered (and the call of their abduction remains on tape).

But I am unaware of any case where they have been pinpointed and the abductor captured while they are in the trunk.

My question is, why don’t trunks have a “safety release” so that a person CANNOT be locked inside a trunk (unless they are fully bound)? There is a release cord inside my trunk to open the gas tank, there just as easily could people a mechanism to pop the trunk.

Newer cars do have a safety release in the trunk.
