My son, Logan, age 15, had his Eagle Scout Board of Review on May 20, 2009 and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on that day.
Logans Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project was to organize and collect cell phones for the organization, Cell Phones for Soldiers, which is run by Brittany and Robbie Bergquist of Norwell, Massachusetts.
The cell phones that were collected were sold to a company for their parts and the money was then used to purchase phone cards for troops overseas to use to call back home. Logan and I met with the Bergquist Family earlier this year when they attended the 16th Annual National Character & Leadership Symposium held at the US Air Force Academy.
His project was to collect 350 cell phones. He acquired over 400 and is still receiving phones today.
Logan has a deep respect for the military, as my wife, and I are Air Force veterans. Logans goal is to graduate from the Air Force Academy and fly for the Air Force.

Lamh Foistenach Abu!
Very cool. I made Life Scout as a kid, but my troop folded.
Congrats!
I welcome him to the club! Outstanding job son and dad!
Your son is a great Citizen and a model Scout. You must be very proud, on both counts!
May I offer you both my hand, and hearty heart-felt congratulations on your son’s achievements? I am pleased and proud for you both, and honored that you chose to share this wonderful news with us today.

I lived overseas as a kid. The closest I ever got to scouting was a subscription to “Boy’s Life”.

Scout salute!
Thanks. The other day, I pulled out my flight suit from 20 years ago and let him try it on. It fit him like a glove. I think he slept in it that night.
My son will be receiving his first class rank in a few weeks (hopefully) and star by this fall.
Hope your son is planning to go to the National Jamboree in July 2010.
Congrats to your son.
Logan making Eagle Scout will make it easier for him to get into the service academies, including the Air Force Academy. You just need to make sure his academics and other activities are good enough, and that he is physically fit (Shouldn’t be much of a problem).
(big grin!) That is TOO COOL for words! Delightful!
My three nephews and a cousin’s son all have made it into the nest....It takes a lot of hard work by the scout and support from the family....You are all to be congratulated.
Congratulations. Your son is following the footstep of our neighbor in Amherst. Eagle Scout, college, Air Force, A-10 pilot, many missions in middle East and now in Korea. He loves the life, prayers for your son to succeed.
Congratulations to Logan and to his support staff! : )
That is going to be something for him to really remember.
Here's a trivia question, "Which country's Boy Scouts have ostrich feathers on their campaign style hats?"
Congratulations Logan
Very nice. Congrats to your son. It’s really a great deal, that Eagle thing.
I earned mine 40 years ago, and at the time, I thought it was kind of a kid thing that was all about scouting. It wasn’t.
It seems to have followed me for my whole life. Job apps, applications to college, (no military for me, but it makes a significant difference to the military and it’s understandable), but throughout my life that little award got asked about. I’m convinced that it got me into places and positions and even cockpits, much like my undergraduate and advanced degrees did. Even now, I keep getting some sort of eagle scout mailing from somewhere. How do they keep track of me on something like that?
Irregardless, it’s nice to have the award. He still doesn’t appreciate what it will do for him later, but it will. :-)
Congratulations from the Father of three Eagle Scouts.
As the parent of an Eagle Scout, welcome to the club. I’ve always felt that there should be a scouting award for parent(s).
My husband sends his congrats. He’s an Eagle Scout as well. I’m already on the look out for good project ideas for our son, who’s 18 months old.
Excellent work by your son!
Congrats on your son becoming an Eagle Scout. You mentioned your son wanting to attend the Air Force Academy. FReep mail me and I can give you a few hints on achieving that honor. I know the recruiter/interviewer for the West Coast who is attached to the Air Force Academy.
oorah.
My son’s a Webelo 2, so Eagle’s a ways off. But I do realize what an accomplishment it is. It’ll look great on his resume. What’s the Scout rally cry? Hoo-rah? Semper Fi? Hamana hamana? Well congrats, anyway.
From what I've seen, I think it's "Where's the chow?!".
Congratulations to your son! I remember how proud we were of our son when he made Eagle Scout at 16.

Fantastic! I made it to Star Scout before I stupidly quit, thinking the Scouts weren’t very cool.
I used to love that magazine.

“..... thinking the Scouts werent very cool.”
Well, it wasn’t cool 40 years ago either. But that’s really the point (and it really is “cool” that you recognize it now). What’s perceived by society as being fashionable, is often at odds with what is truly valuable to the individual boy and the community he exists within. That’s the beauty of the whole scouting experience. It transcends popular culture, even though popular culture has never been amused by it.
No, an Eagle scout doesn’t get swarmed by the chicks, but what it does for you throughout your life more than compensates for that limited temporal benefit.
Thank you for sharing!
Its: Be Prepared.
Please tell him we are proud of his accomplishment
......How do they keep track of me on something like that?....
My job as a scouter nearing 50 years of service and holding the Eagle Rank is to conduct Eagle ceremonies. From the Challenge I deliver.... “Eagles are Marked men”
And also National Eagle Scout Association

I have a scratchy old recording of B-P leading a bunch of English Scouts in a cheer of "DYB - DYB - DYB". Very inspiring.
Congrats on your son's Eagle rank (and congrats are due to you too for helping him along the way.)

A very hearty and sincere congratulations to your son and to you parents! Well done!

Congratulations to Logan. It is an honor well deserved.
Scouting is such a great organization dedicated to developing leaders in a world of followers. From the time they are Tiger Cubs, they learn in small bits how to step out. Ive got two boys, one First Class, one Webelo II.
When my oldest was a Tiger, we went to our first popcorn sale in front of a store. At the time, he was very shy and afraid to speak to anyone, sometimes even family members. When we got there, a Webelo scout (now Eagle) literally put his arm around my son and said, Lets learn how to sell popcorn. Within ten minutes, he was approaching a burly biker guy in leathers trying to make the sale.
Fast forward a few years to a troop meeting last month. He was asked one hour before the meeting to substitute for one of the scouts and give a presentation on backpacking skills and gear. Within 30 minutes, he had an outline in his head and a bunch of gear packed to give a 30 minute speech. From there, he went directly into a Board of Review for First Class rank.
That is the confidence and leadership brought on by scouting. Hopefully in two years or so, Ill have the same opportunity you have by announcing the my FReeper friends that my son has earned his Eagle as well. Then again a few years later.
