They dropped their tiny dog off for grooming at the Castle Rock PetSmart. Minutes later, another dog mauled it to death...What troubled the family most though, was that Buddy had been killed by the PetSmart grooming manager's dog, a dog other workers call a pit bull. But a dog the owner calls in the police report, an American Bulldog Mastiff.

Poor little thing! A little Yorkie would be just a mouthful for a dog bred to kill soldiers in armor!

He's lovely too, bless him.
These powerful Pitbulls and some other heavyweight terriers should only be allowed to be kept by properly trained and informed owners, who understand that lax or bad discipline with these breeds can end up in disaster.

Big dog and little dog interactions need to be carefully monitored. Many little dogs consider themselves “alpha”, despite their stature. Many big dogs will take violent exception to this presumption. It is up to human beings, who are theoretically endowed with the power of reason, to keep the peace.

There are differences in the aggressiveness between/amongst breeds. As well as intelligence, and any other thing that makes up what certain ‘breeds’ are ‘bred’ for.
The soialization of any pet towards humans, or PVP (pet versus pet) is key. The owner of ANY animal is ultimatley responsible for the actions of thier animal.
There is no such thing as a specific breed incapable of the boundries of being properly trained.
As a general rule, nonagessive breeds are highly favored, yet there are those that choose to own breeds that could pose a threat to the uninitiated and uninformed.
I say that any American can have any domesticated pet they choose to have, But also (and you can’t legislate common sense), be responsible 100% for when YOUR PET messes up.

A groomer? = "A dog hairdresser"
It didn't work out as planned here, however one looks at this, that dog was either ill trained or was ill handled.
If that Pitbull was another Yorkie, a Jack, a Whippet or the majority of other breeds, we wouldn't have a dead dog here.
Any handler who has a powerful dog needs to be competent, anything else is reckless and irresponsible.

That would be great if Beverly Hills plastic surgeons were keeping pit bulls and other vicious breed.. the problem is they are owned by and large by the poor, who don’t have a pot to piss in, financially speaking. “Holding them responsible” is illusory.

My idea of responsibilities reguarding pet ownership is not limited to financial compensation.
As a Conservative, Jail time is authorized for “leash law” breakers, that have little or no reguard for the actions of thier property. AND Uthanize the ill trained pet as seen fit by those that work with animals.

I agree. I have five dogs, three of them rescues, and when I take one to the Vet it never fails that I see a homeboy in there with a pit puppy. The homeboy (and there are many) is always dressed out in the crack showing pants and enough bling bling to sink a ship.
I’m always saddened by the thought that the adorable little puppy doesn’t have a chance in life. It will be chained to a tree on a four foot chain until it loses it’s mind. It’s only purpose in life is to scare people, cops, etc. away from the “stash”. Sickening!
To: bethybabes69
I wasn’t even attempting to support the groomer ... merely pointing out that your statement presupposes that the groomer has little or no training in animal handling. This is probably not you run-of-the-mill Veda Salons.
I’m more inclined to believe that the groomer turned his/her back for a moment ... and Muffy became history.

I don’t blame the dog, I blame the dog owner.
I have an American Bulldog, and he’s a big baby. Having said that, I do keep an eye on him around other animals (we also have two cats, which he plays with) because he’s 90 lbs and very very strong. He’s also very self confident, which can be intimidating.
There have been many occasions where smaller dogs got aggressive with him simply because of his size- but I’ve never once seen him get aggressive with any other animal, for any reason, and he’s actually taken bites on the face!
But while he’s perpetually smiling and cheerful, I can only imagine the kind of damage he would do to someone who threatened my family.

Pit Bulls come with their own set of problems. If the owner does not know what he is getting into or is not capable of dealing with the difficulties of this breed, it is irresponsible for them to own one.

People, we're all conservatives here. Pit bull this or that...doesn't really matter. The only thing in this story that really matters is this: the family is pursuing legal "options to force Petsmart to change their policies."
Why? If they want to stand out in front of the store and jump up and down that people shouldn't bring their pets into the store, fine. But using the power of the law to force their will upon a company and by proxy the rest of the public is exactly the mindset that has screwed this country up.

But using the power of the law to force their will upon a company and by proxy the rest of the public is exactly the mindset that has screwed this country up. Huh? What do you think this family should do? Why was the groomer's dog loose with customers' dogs? The groomers' personal dog should have been housed in a kennel during business hours. I wouldn't take my dog to a groomer that allowed the dogs to run free and interact with each other without supervision. And supervision means on a leash with a competent handler attached to the other end.
To: ovrtaxt
I can only imagine the kind of damage he would do to someone who threatened my family.
We adopted our first lab about 9 years ago. He has always been very friendly, never growled or beared his teeth at anyone (except the water hose, which he loves.) My son was about 5, and my daughter 1. When my husband played with the kids there was always alot of screaming/laughing as he would tickle them to pieces and toss them to a nearby pile of pillows. The dog (Taz) would always bark and 'jump around' on the periphery of this horse play. I could tell he was confused by it, like he wasn't sure if he should play along or try to defend the screaming kids. On any given day I know my dog wouldn't bite anyone, BUT, if a member of my family were being threatened in a real manner I'm almost positive he would do his best to defend us.

If the state you are in does not allow you to fire the gun you are carrying do what you can to move to another state.
If their dogs come after you shoot them. Make sure that you are calling the police and making reports, record the dates, it will help.
Sorry that this is so personal for you, but try to remember that levity is also a pressure release for people.

My vile ex-coworker (the one who ate Cheerios all day long) had a gorgeous Golden whom she brought to work once a week. That dog loved me so much that he got all excited whenever it was time for him to see me. He used to run right up to my desk for a belly rub as soon as he was in the door.
One day, VEC-W and her husband stopped by our house. The dog squeezed through a partially open car window and ran up to me for his pets and hugs. They said that he had never jumped out of the SUV for anything before.
Ha ha ha ha. She hated that.

LOL people always hate it when their pets like other people with some gusto. I guess she didn't realize that when her dog got *smoochy*huggy*lovey*belly*rubs* from someone each time he saw them he would respond positively to it.
My dog always got very excited when one of my neighbors/friends would bring a toddler over because the kids would climb all over him. I swear he would lay there with a smile while a kid was pulling his ears and hair, and poking him in the eyes. If/when he had enough he would go lay in his kennel.
