After Barbaro and Eight Belles, then the 21 polo ponies who died in Palm Beach last week, I’ve sworn off horse sports forever. Wish they could all be released into the wild and run as far and as fast as they wish.

No, not a PETA member, just don’t want any more heartbreaking horse scenarios.

The hats, though! They’re something else. Derby could easily be about derbies and still draw thousands of viewers.

After Barbaro and Eight Belles

Hey, Pea Brain.

Barbaro and Eight Belles wouldn't have existed at all were it not for Thoroughbred Racing. They led pampered lives for as long as they lived. Other horse died too. I know some of their names, but I'm guessing that you only know about the ones the tear jerk media tells you about. Last night some cattle died for me, and maybe for you too. I killed a mosquito that annoyed me this morning. If you want to weep for her too, maybe I could send you a picture.

Pea Brain for not wanting to watch racing? You’re rather over-the-top vicious. Or Defensive. I didn’t say a word about Thoroughbreds and I don’t think the polo ponies I mentioned were Thoroughbreds, but go ahead and hate me for that too. Maybe you don’t like people with blue eyes or women or owners of foreign cars. More to hate! This IS your day.

I know nothing about horses, pedigrees, etc. I pick by the names that ‘feel’ like winners to me.
So, I’m on record as picking ‘ Hold Me Back’, ‘Advice’, and
‘Chocolate Candy’.

My late father would have chosen the gray horse every time.
So for him- watch ‘Dunkirk’.
Gonna be fun to see if any Freepers pick the winner.

The fastest mudders times are Dunkirk, General Quarters and Friesan Fire so you cant go wrong with a trifecta! Your grandad could be right about Dunkirk...

“Pea Brain for not wanting to watch racing?”

I thought that was unnecessarily abrasive also, but why click on this thread if you can no longer stand to watch? That’s like an avowed atheist commenting on religion threads.

By the way, I grieve over all the injured animals too, but that is life. Just had a kitty into the vet for a bite wound that abcessed. The only way to not have injuries is not to have them. Our lives would all be much the poorer with no animals to love.

WTF do you think Barbaro and Eight Belles were? I don't hate you. I detest ignorant people like you who pontificate about that which they know nothing about. I'm guessing you prefer car racing where people are killed instead of horses. At least us horse racing folks don't attend hoping to see a big pile-up.

The Ledger in NJ, had a run-down on the different horses, along with can/can’t win comment. For “Flying Private” (50-1) ———He can win because: In horse racing, you have a shot if you’re in the gate. -—— He can’t win because: The horse is too slow.

LOL! I’m for Flying Private!

I wish all those stupid hats would just go away! Whatever happened to just a gracious Southern lady protecting herself from the sun with a wide-brimmed hat. Where will the breaking point be?
