The CIA's use of waterboarding to interrogate terrorism suspects was approved by Condoleezza Rice as early as 2002, a senate report reveals. As national security adviser, Ms Rice consented to the harsh interrogation of al-Qaeda suspect Abu Zubaydah, the Senate Intelligence Committee found. Memos released last week show that he and another key detainee were subjected to waterboarding 266 times. Former Vice-President Dick Cheney has said the techniques produced results.

Al-Qaeda suspect Abu Zubaydah was waterboarded more than 80 times
Good. She showed she has the ability to make decisions.
Did Americans do this or was it performed by others? Waiting to find this out.
Aggravated Sponge Bath
Makes me up my respect level for her a couple points.
Imagine you’re back in late 2001 or early 2002 and someone predicted that in a few short years the relatively mild interrogation methods employed on the terrorists belonging to the organization that killed thousands of American citizens on 9/11/01 would be a very controversial issue for about half of the citizenry, despite the fact that it’s been proven that such methods were successful in saving countless American lives. ...and that the President of the U.S. at the time would be a Marxist by the name of Barack Hussein Obama.
NO ONE would’ve believed it.
I mean, I can see where it’d be traumatic, as some of those guys have never seen water before...
why is it allright to shoot 3 muslims between the eyes to save one ship captain (the pirates hostage) but barbaric to waterboard someone to save numerous lives....makes no sense
Ok but did American citizens do the waterboarding?
I don't care a whit!
The fact is that American lives, lots of them, were saved because need information was obtained and I for one couldn't care less how, or by whom, that was done.
BTW: none of what was done comes remotely close to torture!
Good, If BHO goes after her it will be a continuation of the out of control BLACK on BLACK crime that is prevalent in Black neighborhoods all across the nation.
Obama Attackng an Innocent person.
Excellent!
You don’t. I do.
I heard only three detainees were waterboarded, is that true?
Waterboarding is NOT torture I don't care what the liberal idiots say.
Frankly, I don’t care if we slowly gouged out the body parts of Al Qaeda members in the process of interrogation, put bullets in their heads when the necessary intel was obtained, and then buried them in pig carcasses. In fact, I strongly advocate such action.
I can guarantee you that our stature in the eyes of that part of the world these people come from would go up greatly if we did as you suggest.
I am SICK of liberal apologists!
I’ll tell you what makes me angry...what about the soldiers who were charged at ABu Ghraib...remember ‘a few bad soldiers who were breaking the law’ Obviously, this torture or whatever- the orders came from the top. Those soldiers, including England should be pardoned immediately. I have always believed Pres. Bush to be a decent man...but in his speech he said ‘we don’t torture....a few bad apples etc’. Yet, this was not the case and those soldiers were scapegoated. This is wrong.
They were only killed, not ‘tortured’....
what about the soldiers who were charged at ABu Ghraib...or whatever- the orders came from the top.
Isn’t it a shame that so much time and money is being spent going after those that were doing their best to protect us all, and have actually saved American lives.
What we should be doing is bringing to justice those that spent 8 years confounding the war. Their actions placed our country and brave Troops at greater risk, extending the war, costing lives and treasure that would otherwise not been lost. Politicians, using the MSM to leak secret and critical information to the world, thus to our enemies, is no less than treason.
Leave our Patriots alone and bring the Traitors to justice....
I have seen the reports on even Fox that by 2002 orders were given that allowed harsh interrogations-torture? I don’t know. However, why charge these young soldiers who were no doubt following their orders. It should at the least be investigated again.
I think water boarding is torture...and I don’t think we should do this...so flame away. This is America...we do not torture. There were other types of interrogation as well discussed on Fox so it’s a decent source.
I think you have led far too sheltered a life and have no real idea as to the nature of the world we live in. If you want to call that a flame feel free!
BTW: Shepard Smith is the token flaming liberal on Fox!
Way to support terrorism, nyconse.
I think we can fight terrorism without violating our principles...I really do. That being said, I don’t want prosecutions. I do want those soldier convicted of torturing terrorists out of jail...it’s just not fair.
No, it’s a reasonable reply...thanks. I am a military brat, my Dad was Navy...he would not have approved of torture...assuming this is torture which I hope it is not. I would like to see this ended...no good will come of endless investigations.
Waterboarding saved American lives.
I don’t want to be crude but just imagine what can be done with a bit of piano wire and a short length of dowel rod. If you will do so I think you will begin to get the idea what torture really is.
Torture is NOT making someone believe something is happening that, in reality, is NOT happening. It is a perfectly legitimate interrogation technique.
I don’t know about that and refuse to think about it lol! However, someone on Fox said Water boarding was illegal. Is this true?...I still don’t want trials or hearings. It’s a lose lose proposition.
How do we know this? I still don’t think torture is a good idea...are we going to remain America- a good and decent country or not?
OK, it’s obvious you don’t get it, and this conversation is useless.
So, what’s your regular handle over at DU?
Waterboarding was not illegal and should not be now and, at the risk of repeating myself, America has not “tortured” anyone.
Those on the other side have done so! Slowly cutting off a man’s head with a dull knife comes to mind.
I agree that our enemies have done horrible things, but Fox mentioned other stuff besides water boarding...which I have to say makes me squeamish... I just want the whole thing dropped in terms of investigations...we are at war. If someone crossed the line then quietly fire this person...let it go.
Travis come on...I’ve been here for years and you know it as we have had discussions before...some where we were in agreement. I don’t think torture is right. I am a Christian; it is against my faith. This does not in anyway indicate agreement with the witch hunt DU crowd...In an aside, I once tried to infiltrate DU...spying on the enemy so to speak...got a name and all. Within days, I was banned...don’t even no why. I guess I was not as clever as I thought. DU bans your IP address by the way...totally paranoid to be sure.
Yep, Blame America First. Another leftist posture.
The other icky stuff you don’t like, that includes the “torture” with a caterpillar, right?
Interesting you believe it when “someone said it’s illegal” and discount the fact that I said waterboarding saved American lives. It’s pretty easy to see you are clearly posting with an anti-American agenda.
We are in agreement about not bringing anyone to trial, by the way.
OK, you are not a DU’er, but apparently (obviously) you support policies that make it more dangerous for Americans, and are in alignment with the hardcore left against interrogation techniques that have saved America lives.
I pay attention.
The Central Intelligence Agency told CNSNews.com today that it stands by the assertion made in a May 30, 2005 Justice Department memo that the use of enhanced techniques of interrogation on al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM) -- including the use of waterboarding -- caused KSM to reveal information that allowed the U.S. government to thwart a planned attack on Los Angeles.
Google it, if you were paying attention, you'd KNOW that what we did saved American lives. Tons of sources.
Of course there should be no triel, because they did nothing wrong!
It was on Fox OK, and I asked it if it was true...didn’t state it was true. All right you found me out. I am a softy and very squeamish it’s true...it’s why I didn’t follow my brother and sister into the Marines and only lasted 10 minutes into the movie-Saw. Now, for full disclosure I cried every time I was forced to watch Old Yeller and refuse to watch movies where kids and dogs die in general. I don’t want to argue with you about this because I really don’t know what to think.
Look, I will accept your opinion about water boarding not being torture because I have no opinion as I know nothing about it.
I need not google...your word is good enough. Thanks for the information. I do think this will not play well for the Democrats and might hurt them in 2010.
