Lacrosse accuser to speak To address justice system, the media Rachel Coleman, Staff Writer

The woman involved in the Duke University lacrosse team scandal more than three years ago will make a rare public appearance today at UNC as part of an event about social injustice.
Crystal Gail Mangum, who accused three Duke lacrosse players of rape in 2006, will speak in the Sonja Haynes Stone Center about “the harsh realities of minority treatment both in the justice system and the media,” according to the event’s press release.
The lacrosse players were later declared innocent by Attorney General Roy Cooper, who said Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong rushed to accuse based on false information.

Let me get this straight: Tom Tancredo is refused the right to speak at a small gathering in a UNC-Chapel Hill classroom, but this liar (who should be serving time for perjury) is invited to speak to the student union about how badly minorities are treated by the media?
The falsely accused innocent White males have been sacrificed on the altar of political correctness. They would have a long uphill battle to try to recover damages for the deliberate lies, slander and character defamation, since White males are assumed to be always guilty and wrong.

Amazing how the person who instigated an incident is portrayed as the victim. If she had stuck to stripping and dancing and God knows what else she does, and didn’t falsely accuse people of anything, she wouldn’t have become a victim. Will anyone ever call this to her attention that she brought everything that happened to her on herself????????
Social Justice is one bizarre creature. It punishes perceived crimes of the through crimes real or imagined of today.
If I recall correctly, a lot of Duke professors were on record as saying that they didn’t care if these guys were guilty of the crimes they were accused of, they wanted justice for crimes of the distant past and were willing to hang the innocent to get it.

I think anyone who makes a false accusation should have to serve the maximum possible sentence that the accused would have faced.

Following Mangum’s speech will be a question-and-answer session with the audience. Questions will be submitted beforehand to organizers to prevent questions related to the Duke lacrosse team. Organizers are ensuring that security will be present at the event in light of last week’s protests that prevented former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo from speaking.They are going to make sure that the issue of her crimes, and her responsibility in the unjust procution of non-minorities, will never be brought up.

Dave Evans was a senior and graduated from Duke but could not attend his graduation ceremony due to security concerns. He was arrested the next day. Reade Seligman and Collin Finnerty had been arrested earlier and suspended. After missing approximately a year of school, they transferred to Brown and Loyola of Maryland, respectively, where they continue to play lacrosse.
The three falsely accused lacrosse players settled with Duke University but are still suing Durham and other parties.
The some of the remainder of the team and the former coach are also plaintiffs in various lawsuits. I think the Wiki link given by Lonesome in MA is reasonably OK.
IMO she should be ignored. The less media attention the better. If Tancredo had been allowed to speak without incident, no one would of heard that he was there at all.
