Britain's Got Talent: Susan Boyle is not a very good singer, calm down everybody
Art is what you like. If you don’t like this kind of art, then go back to the punk rockers or rappers you feel most affinity to.
That is one person’s opinion. Ignore the “man behind the curtain” and make your own decision on whether or not she is a good singer.
JoMa
She doesn’t fit the mold. Beautiful voice though.
I’m glad we have intellectual-types to tell us when we dont know what we are supposed to think.
By the way, check out her version of “Cry me a River”

So, the ignorant arrogant pontificators have struck again . . .
that old collectivist mentality that ignorant arrogance knows what’s best for the serfs and slaves? Sheesh.
Susan has
MORE VOICE
and
CHARACTER
than that clueless diatriPe ever thought of having.
Is that just a strawman assumption or do you have evidence of such affinity?
Just making stuff up is kind of childish, don't you think?
She has a great set of pipes.
Pray for America
Vincent van Gogh was not a good artist. There, that settles it. Nobody else's opinion matters.
A great voice from a face made for radio.
He HAS so be a UK Socialist. Can’t BEAR to give praise....where praise is most CERTAINLY due. In other words....he couldn’t do it, himself, so he has to act like a 6 yr old on the playground who runs to the teacher complaining that Suzy has a bigger cookie than he....and he wants it.
Sour grapes. Typical.
Anyone ever tell this person they aren’t a good writer?
“Is that just a strawman assumption or do you have evidence of such affinity?”
“Just making stuff up is kind of childish, don’t you think?”
I think they have as much right to make their assumptions and voice their opinions as you have the right to make YOUR assumptions. I understand that not everyone is as smart asd intelligent as some think they are, but neither do we have to allow someone to try to initimidate us because of our opinion as to what is or is not good music. And, for the record, I think hip hop and rap are—well, they rhyme with rap.
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks so much for posting the link!
Yes, fine, but that does not answer my question.
It was stated by Brilliant that Former MSM Viewer could "go back to the punk rockers or rappers you feel most affinity to."
Have either of you evidence of this affinity or did you just make it up?
Humble, I ignored the insinuation...
Theres a comedian here in Houston that does a bit about his fav music - “Country rap...I call it C.R.A.P.”
I think a lot of the effect with the BGT video is that everyone's reaction goes from a rolled-eyes "Sheesh!" to a raised-eyebrows "Holy Crap!". Now that she won't have that surprise factor going for her anymore, people might pay attention to where she may have weaknesses. Then again, because of the "feel good story" angle though, maybe not.
I guess they were too busy teabagging to realize that he was an A-M-A-T-E-U-R singer.....you know, not professionally trained.
The 'smart' set will, of course, listen to this silly little author and ignore their lying ears.
“That is one person’s opinion. Ignore the “man behind the curtain” and make your own decision on whether or not she is a good singer”
I haven’t seen her, except for the snippet that was on the news but I liked what I heard. A good singer is someone who can “touch” you with a song, they don’t need training to do that, but they will mostly improve with training and experience. Elvis and the Beatles were well into their careers before they were accomplished artists.
Arthur Smith (Dueling Banjos) told a story of working with Bob Wills on a recording a session, when someone came in and wanted them to listen to a demo tape. After listening to the tape, Wills said, hell the boy can’t even keep time .... that demo was by Hank Williams.
She is not a good singer, she is a great singer and with proper lessons and training she is going to be an exceptional singer making millions of dollars a year and performing all over the world.
And Barbra Streisand is such a beauty!!
I read that she has had voice lessons in the past. Also, I think the reason people are talking about her voice range on the lower end of the scale is because you can’t hear her that well at times during the video. Perhaps her projection can be improved. The audience was very loud at times. :~)
This person obviously has heard her rendition of Cry Me a River.
I would buy that song!
Rob Leigh and others of same ilk should be required to check out the “Twilght Zone” episode where the normal people actually were ugly by our”standards”. Ugly is shown more in some peoples actions than their looks. Example:Plastic Pelosi.
Never mind poor example!
That type of reaction where the “professionals” heap criticism happens in all fields, seems to me.
If a non-scientist discovers something, the “real” scientists often fall over themselves trying to explain why the thing discovered is just not all that new or exciting.
Alot of these folks try to prove their intrinsic knowledge by inventing nuances that in truth, nobody except them and their smug ilk even give a damn about.
All one need do is listen to her.
Is she a good singer? Absolutely.
Is she a great singer? Certainly.
Is she world class? I think so, but that’s my opinion.
Anybody who doesn’t see it is really not being very honest.

Put a bag over her head and let her sing. I’m waiting to hear her sing another song, or a different type of song, before I decide. I did enjoy the youtube clip, and was touched by her voice and the response.
I see this happen on YouTube all the time—mostly to professional singers and musicians—people that do outstanding work, but someone comes along and says their voices suck or their music is for the untrained masses.

She’s a brilliant singer.
Most “singing” nowadays is heavily dubbed and edited.
Personally I would love to hear her sing Stormy Weather.
She also said that although she was pleased with her performance she can do better.
I was just singing in the car with the windows down. Base on the looks I got, I can confirm that she is a better singer than I. So she’s got that going for her.
Sorry, make that when she was in her 30’s.
I think you mistyped, mware. The lady is only 47. :~)
That is odd, since she is only 47 now.
I corrected it in the mext post.
DAMN, make that next post.
The fun thing about seeing the video of her performance on Britain has Talent is the reaction she got (aside from hearing a tremedous voice).
We have been so heavily bombarded with the idea that beauty is visual, television trained by the acolytes of Twiggy, that we have forgotten that there is beauty where you find it.
Her voice is beautiful, and with a wee bit of training will be even better.
Good on her, God Bless her, and I hope to hear more of her singing in the future.
My personal opinion (for what that’s worth, lol!) is that “Cry Me a River” is OWNED by Julie London. I like Susan’s version, though, don’t get me wrong!
That said, Ms. Boyle’s story reminds me of the great Ella Fitzgerald, when she was just starting out. Ella went to audition for Count Basie, who took one look at her and dismissively called her a “sack of potatoes with legs”. THEN, Ella started to sing...Basie hired her in a hearbeat, and one of the best singers of the 20th century was brought to the world!
You GO, Susan!!!!!
No, I’m sure that Amy Winehouse thing is more his style. Maybe eyebrows could be the new tattoos?
I sure thought it was great. I’m not very bright.
After listening to many performances of “I Dreamed a Dream” on youtube, I think Susan Boyle sang it better than most. Her performance stacked up well even against the professionals. The only performances I liked a lot more were Ruthie Henshall’s.
Opinions are like Rectums, Everyone has one. This person is entitled to his ,even if he is wrong. I would suggest next time he just trn to another channel.
Please don’t do that again.
